Remember, talk pages are meant for discussing the article itself, not the subject. To post all your wild theories and random questions about the content of the games, see this forum section.

By the way, everyone's paying attention LIKE A HAWK to any and all information concerning HGSS. Cool it. We will have stuff up and ready as soon as time allows.

Question about the talk page thing notice at the top

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that talk pages are for discussing the article and its content, not its subject? A lot of what happens on talk pages is discussing content, such as whether or not to delete or add something, something to change, etc. --ルレ 05:52, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

I agree! *celebrates* Now, when's it coming out in America...? --ルレ 06:54, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
 • It also should be noted that even if Google's translation had the right month the problem is it was too early before the release date was announced. -Tyler53841 14:40, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
The fact that Google's (mis)translation had the right month was a coincidence, because the original Japanese text only said "fall 2009." --Evice 20:55, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Due to this not being added... Once template gets modified, add the following instead of "Story on Bulbanews"

Pedometer

Does anyone know if this is an actual pedometer that measures steps you, the human behind the DS, take, or if it's like the pedometer poketch app? It could easily be either, so maybe I'm not alone in thinking it should be given that detail in the article... Or maybe I'm just dumb. :P Mageslayer 00:43, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

That last thing. It's a regular pedometer, due to each step you take, the monster deposited gains an EXP point.--Mew* a.k.a. Prmatt11 was here at 00:51, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Two edit requests an admin never responded to

I put these on the talk page previously (they're archived now), and an admin never responded:

Is it worth mentioning that the New Pokédex (Johto Pokédex) has its own numbering system this time? The numbers weren't displayed in Gen II. --Evice 03:08, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

[The Wikipedia remake article link in the opening paragraph] currently links here; it should instead link here, as the latter link discusses the type of remake HeartGold and SoulSilver are while the former discusses remakes in general, including unrelated types of remakes such as movie remakes. --Evice 02:06, 20 June 2009 (UTC) [An admin took care of this. --Evice 00:58, 28 June 2009 (UTC)]

Can those be added? --Evice 20:58, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

 1. We don;'t know that for sure, it could be the same as the old Johto Dex.
 2. I'm no admin, So I can't help on that......--ForceFire 22:56, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
When I said the Johto Pokédex has its own numbering system, I meant that the numbers were displayed. The order's the same from what has been seen (the Pokémon shown have numbers that match up with the Johto numbers on their Bulbapedia pages), it just has numbering this time. In the original games, the New Pokédex didn't display numbers on the list screen, and when you viewed a Pokémon's data, it used the National numbering. --Evice 23:12, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
I think it's too early to say either way. We don't know for sure that the Johto Dex in HGSS will be the same as it was in Generation II. I sorta doubt Kanto Starters and Legendaries will be put in it, unless there's a way to get them in HGSS..Purimpopoie 00:13, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
They were in the original without being available in GS. --ルレ 00:51, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
The order and the Pokémon present are irrelevant for what I want to be added. The point of the edit I want to be made is that numbers are displayed on the Johto Pokédex's list in HGSS, unlike in GSC in which it didn't. The point is to add a change that is confirmed to have been made, and that is numbering in the Johto Pokédex's list, with those numbers also being used in the entries, rather than using the National numbering in the Pokémon pages and no numbering at all in the list. Originally numbers were only displayed in the list if the Old Pokédex mode (i.e. Gen II's equivalent of the National Pokédex) was used, and the numbers shown in the screenshots of HGSS's Pokédex are not the National numbering. --Evice 00:53, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
I went ahead and typed out a suggested edit to the Pokédex changes listed:

* Much like Kanto's was for its remakes, Johto's Pokédex has been redesigned; however, just the same, it retains the same Pokédex order referred to as the "New Pokédex" in Generation II. However, unlike in Generation II, the numbers used are displayed in the listing and the entries (originally the listing did not display numbering, while the entries displayed the National Pokédex's numbering when viewed).- unsigned comment from Evice (talkcontribs)

Arceus Event

Source

If you trade Arceus over to Heart Gold & Soul Silver and take it with you to a specific, currently unknown location, you will meet up with Champion Cynthia. She will explain that Arceus has the ability to create newborn Pokémon. You have the option of choosing between the three dragons, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, all level 1. You must choose wisely, however, as you may keep only one.

Can someone please add the new information from high quality trailer?

The official HG/SS website updated with a higher quality video as many of us already know. Serebii.net just updated with some pictures from the trailer. It shows Morty in the Ecrutek city Gym which appeared to have received a redesign. It also shows an unknown Gym puzzle with lava which many speculate to be the Blackthorn Gym. The trailer also shows that Pokemon following you on the field can use their HM moves to get rid of obstacles. Of many things, Serebii shows a picture of Tyranitar using rock smash in Cainwood City, and some pictures of Gold and Totodile and Soul and Chikorita walking around with Totodile around Violet city and Ecrutek city, and a battle with Typhlosion and Meganium versus Feraligatr and Tyranitar. Tyranitar, Feraligatr, and Mareep sport new front sprites which may or may not be beta. --Dialgafan1 16:57, 3 July 2009 (UTC)Dialgafan1

"Burned" Tower

Could someone please change the link in the Gallery section to Brass Tower, since that's what it's English name is. Dolphins_are_awesome (and Vulpix are too)! 21:48, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

That was what it was called before the fire. It was called the Burned Tower in G/S/C. --ルレ 21:50, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Not to mention that there were no mentions of the name "Brass Tower" in Gold/Silver, only in Crystal...--Shiningpikablu252 21:52, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Burned Tower is Brass Tower, but in the games you can't visit it before it's burned. The Brass Tower name is the same as if, in PMTTYD you called Rogueport the ancient city that the demon destroyed. TTEchidna 22:00, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Not realy. ŚĥîΠŶPî₭₳ĉĥŭ 02:05, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Absolutely not. GS came out 11/21/99, HGSS come out on 9/12/09. There's not even trivia for their release compared with the release of FRLG, since neither is consistent with regards to the anniversary, period, let alone to the tenth anniversary. TTEchidna 02:17, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Just wondering.

Is the intro show by Pokébeach official. If it is, then in the trivia section should it be mention unlike how FRLG had a remade intro, that HGSS has a new intro. Except the title screen.--Pokéboy93 00:19, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

All 493 Pokemon Follow The Player?

I noticed that the article said that all Pokemon follow the player, but so far I haven't noticed any screenshot that showed more than Pokemon from Gen 1 and 2 doing so. What's the source on that ones from Gen3 and 4 do so as well? Plasma 19:05, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

There are pics of Arceus and Kecleon following the characters, The pic of Kecleon is really bad though...--PsychicRider 19:08, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Actually, the Keckleon one is Larvitar. There's a clean version on the Walking Pokémon page. --ルレ 19:10, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Huh...Maybe it's a different one...Anyways, Arceus is able to follow the player, so it would make sense for a Gen III Poke to follow as well...--PsychicRider 19:13, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
As far as I'm aware, the Kecleon thing was just an error on Serebii's part that became widespread, like the incorrect PokéWalker name "PokéWalk" (which he did recently correct, thankfully). Capsule Computer 19:36, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
There probably aren't any screenshots of pokemon other then Gen 1 and 2 because it's a remake of the Gen 2 games, which means most likely no pokemon of later gens until the player beats the elite 4 (unless they include the new evolutions). I don't know about a source, but I can't imagine them making sprites for all the gen 1 and 2 pokemon and then just leaving out the later gens. Derian 12:09, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Magnet Train

In the article Magnet Train, there's pic of the train in HG/SS, but it isn't here on the HG/SS page. Maybe an administrator can put it up in the gallery. Timmy Tim 06:56, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Good idea, but we'll be fine. We don't need every single image on this particular page. As long as it's somewhere on the pedia, we're happy. —darklordtrom 09:07, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Pokédex Numbers Aren't the Same

According to Serebii.net, released info from the PokéFiesta event in Japan disprove the fact that the Pokédex numbers are the same for the New Pokédex in HGSS:

Growlithe is #129 as opposed to #127, Arcanine is #130 as opposed to #128, and Lapras is #224 as opposed to #219. Professorsamueloak 16:43, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

He's right, check Serebii and see for yourself. The numbers of those Pokemon are later in the Dex order because they probably added all the evolutions that Generation II Pokemon received in later generations such as Weavile, Honchkrow, Mismagius, and Togekiss. --Dialgafan1 20:27, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Sure. Its' in. —darklordtrom 20:35, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. Now that that's done, can soemone fix the fourth bullet point under Aesthetic Changes and change the last part of the sentence to this: "however, it does not retain the same Pokedex order as the original Generation II games unlike how Firered and Leafgreen retained the same Pokedex order as the original Red and Green." or something to that effect. --Dialgafan1 21:12, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Done also. Didn't see that. —darklordtrom 21:24, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
You know, Serebii's not the ONLY place to get this news. We were discussing all this on the forums yesterday. --((Marton imos)) 21:57, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

When I saw what was happening I felt like the reason for the changes was to remove some of the previous Pokémon that aren't needed like the Kanto starters, Legendaries, etc. But as I said on that pages' talk page that there should be no changes until the entire change within the Johto Pokédex is confirmed. Also while I am happy the page has been updated with that change I am unsure the part of the inclusion of Generation IV Pokémon bit is correct. But hey the truth on what will be changed will come out eventually. -Tyler53841 22:50, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Seeing as how they wouldn't restrict getting a Razor Fang or Claw into or even within HGSS, just like you can get Fluffy Tails into Gen IV games by migrating, and also remembering that we have the real-time function, Pokémon like Gliscor and Weavile will be available. Just like Electivire and Magmortar, and the ones that evolve by stones. R.A. Hunter Blade 02:34, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Forum for discusion. No more here please. —darklordtrom 02:37, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Kanto Pokemon Exclusions

Is there any evidence for that? --Maxim 07:36, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Well the starters Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle as well as the fossil Pokémon and Legendaries originally could not be found in Johto during Generation II and could only be transferred with the Time Machine and from what I can notice that these Pokémon, especially the starters and Legendaries would be the most likely Pokémon to exclude first. But once the official numbers have been confirmed for the new Johto Dex then well see if any others are excluded. -Tyler53841 08:10, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

But is there any reason to think that they'll be excluded from Pokedex (not counting assumptions). I think the mention about the assumed exclusions should be deleted from the article. Especially that some people have recently started using Bulbapedia as almost official source, believing in its every word... --Maxim 08:24, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Have you also noticed on List of Pokémon by Johto Pokédex number only those Pokémon I mentioned here are the only ones not included there. But anyway the main reason why those 19 would be excluded from the Pokédex is they are rare Pokémon that are never used in another Pokedex in the franchise's game history starting with Gen III, especially if the Hoenn and Sinnoh Regional Dexs are taken into account. I would also suggest that you take this to a forum topic because it is well on it's way to becoming one and I will not post again. -Tyler53841 16:04, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Of course. Bringing the other article as an evidence for your claim! How genius! And I don't see how it's "becoming a forum topic". I'm talking about a passage IN THIS ARTICLE. If it wasn't mentioned in the article, I wouldn't put that up here. --Maxim 16:11, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

That is not what I meant the last part of my last post was my response I am not using that article as an official source what I meant about how rare Pokémon not being used in another Pokédex is true. What's more unbelieveable to me is mentioning the new evolutions forms from Generation IV that of course is something I don't believe is going to happen. -Tyler53841 16:18, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Three things:

-Keep to the KANTO EXCLUSIVES. You're starting to get into the last conversation right above this when you talk about the new evolutions, Tyler.

-It isn't a forum conversation. Yet. If a fight starts, then it would be best if it was moved there so that none of us have to see it.

-It's a remake. Saying it won't have Kanto exclusive Pokémon is like saying that there won't be any Johto exclusive Pokémon. And yeah, it could be said that Kanto won't have them because it was an add-on to the main storyline, but remember. Kanto was about a third to half of the whole game, time-wise. R.A. Hunter Blade 17:11, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Apricorns

Yeah, would anyone mind adding that Apricorns are making a return to the Gameplay changes, along with the info that they can be watered now? I mean, that sounds like something that should be up there, especially since their respective Pokéballs don't exist in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. Dark Boye 01:51, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Mewtwo

If you go to Filb.de you can see a repeat of the HGSS part of Pokemon Sunday, now I don't understand Japanese, so I'm not sure what she said, but she held up this picture of every legendary available in HGSS, and Mewtwo was included and she read them out, and as she said Mewtwo there was a gasp of shock. Can I add in that Mewtwo is in HGSS? Max King 19:47, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Someone over forums told me that Mt. Quena would be introduced into HG/SS, and that he would be obtainable there, but there is no evidence to support this whatsoever and this could be entirely rumour-based at the moment. However, pokébeach.com says: "As hinted in the box showing a battle for the 2010 World Championship's video game tournament, Pokemon Sunday yesterday confirmed that Legendary Pokemon will be allowed in the tournament: Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia and Giratina can be on your team. One of the hosts on Pokemon Sunday stated that he has always had a Kyogre but was never able to use it, which means he caught it in Sapphire. If so, Pokemon Sunday may be implying that players can use the above legendaries from any of your games at next year's tournament, not just the Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Dialga, etc. caught in HeartGold and SoulSilver."

So, from that I think it'd be too early to confirm he is obtainable in the game, though some might suggest that this hints towards it. Antmoney 02:38, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Well, at the very least, they're taking pre-orders in the U.S. now. Still, we should probably keep the U.S. release as "Spring 2010" until we get a date from an official source. Link 486 10:25, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

GameStop puts placeholder dates for games whose specific release dates aren't known. For example, most of the games announced at E3 2009 were given a placeholder date of January 1, 2010. --Evice 00:14, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Apricorn Balls

Apperently apricorn balls cannot be transfered to other Gen IV games but what do you think happens to Pokémon caught in a apricorn ball gets traded to D/P/Pt? Manaphy1 14:48, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

I think there was something about the apricorn balls data being in d/p a while ago UltamateCharizard 19:12, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Where is the evidence Apricorns will be used to make pokeballs in this game? Serebii had info that they were being used to make something similar to pokeblocks. Is there any evidence they'll make pokeballs too (like int he original game)? CherryParanoia 19:31, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
If Apricorns do become pokeblock ingredients, then there'll probably another way to get the Poké Balls that they make.--Dark ICE (User:Cold)(page, talk) 19:34, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Or, you know, they have two uses. You could use your Enigma Berry as Poffin fuel or you could use it to recover when hit by super-effective damage... Why would the damn things be in if they didn't do what they originally did. That's like putting the S.S. Anne in FRLG and saying "OH NO CUT IS IN PEW PEW PEWTER CITY". TTEchidna 04:11, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Game Freak tends to use leftover data for stuff in future games, such as how locations new to Platinum appear as "Distant land" in Diamond and Pearl. Similar data will probably make Pokémon caught in a Gen II ball display as being caught in something else (probably a standard Poké Ball), while the balls themselves can't be traded to DPP (similar to how the Griseous Orb can't be traded from Platinum to Diamond and Pearl). Game Freak wouldn't put this stuff in the game if a workaround weren't present in previous games. --Evice 00:11, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
I doubt they'll make pokeballs this time around, because it'd be hard to make a work around, and plus there's already so many new pokeballs, we don't really NEED the Kurt exclusive ones. Unless there's data in DPPt already with those pokeballs, i highly doubt they'll be in this game... CherryParanoia 18:22, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Um. It's already confirmed (via CoroCoro scans) that the Apricorn balls are in HGSS. What is not is that whether they can be traded into DPPt. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 18:34, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
We'll Just Have To Wait Unitl The Games Come Out Next Week! Manaphy1 18:39, 2 September 2009
Yeah... in Japan.Link 486 10:41, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
While it also depends on what information is acquired before the U.S. release occurs I expect a few things that Nintendo would put in to deal with this issue between the versions and if so It would be better posted on the Pokéball page than on this page since it would likely be a minor tidbit. -Tyler53841 00:22, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Sprites

Gym Leader sprite animations are animated. Check the video on pe2k. ht14 02:57, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

I, um, would hope the animations are animated. I'll chuck it in the article though. —darklordtrom 05:01, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Would this be a little trivia?

That HGSS are being released on the same day as Yellow in Japan?--Midnight Blue 22:11, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

I just put it in. Thanks. —darklordtrom 07:09, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Katone

Could someone change all the links on this page from Soul (game) to Kotone (game), as thats her offical name? ShinyPika 02:55, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Nobody has a bot to do it? Blake Talk·Edits 13:42, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Did you notice that it has already been changed on this page. -Tyler53841 16:09, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
The article is protected Tyler. Nothing was changed before ShinyPikachu asked. R.A. Hunter Blade 16:17, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
I was just responding to Blake, not to ShinyPikachu's message. If it were the other way around I would had posted around ShinyPikachu. -Tyler53841 19:20, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Messed up link

Apricorn case links here, it should instead link here. Can someone fix this please? Dolphins are awesome (and Vulpix are too) 13:41, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

I think it is prefered to use the redirected page links then to link to the main list. It works the same, but the first one is less messy. Blake Talk·Edits 13:44, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Battle picture

The pictures shown on the article in the Gallery section are 100% genuine, right? I just noticed that the PokeBall icons that indicate how many Pokemon you have at the beginning of a battle are upside down in the picture captioned "Gold vs. Silver. "The passer-by boy challenged you to a battle!" " Why are the PokeBalls upside down? Bttsstewart 23:31, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Becuase the balls rotate in-game and the pictures aren't animated. ShinyPika 23:34, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
But it's confirmed that that image is beta anyways, since Silver's sprite changed drastically.
