The Preview Button
Instead of editing a page several times in a row, try using the preview button to make sure your edit looks the way you want it to. It's right next to the Save Page button. Please try it out, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. Also, if you want to edit multiple sections of the page, make sure that you click "edit this page" at the top of the page rather than editing it by section. Thanks! --★Jo the Marten★ ಠ_ಠ♥ 08:02, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry to create the extra work. I did not realize the whole page could be edited. I will do better next time. - - unsigned comment from Marlofkark (talk • contribs) 14:15 (UTC)
I am unable to find "edit this page" at the top of the a given page. The only options appearing are "+" and "edit top of page". - - unsigned comment from Marlofkark (talk • contribs) 16:34 (UTC)
- Those links are not at the top of pages. If you look to the left of the "+" and "edit top of page", you should see the page's title. If you then look above that, you will see the links "article" (or "user page"), "discussion", and "edit this page". Tiddlywinks (talk) 16:47, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- All too easy. Not sure why it was so hard for me to find. I made a few more changes by trying to focus on editing the largest heading categories on the page. This is a learning experience for me, and I appreciate your patiences and directions. I will use "edit this page" from now on. - unsigned comment from Marlofkark (talk • contribs)

I've been on a Labor Day weekend push to update the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online and the List of Pokémon Trading Card Game Online decks pages. As a new player, I found these pages very helpful, even though they were starting to get dated. So, I thought I would pitch in. The one thing I am unable to do its create new landing pages for Rallying Cry and Mental Might. Once these pages are created, I would be happy populate them appropriately with the information on List of Pokémon Trading Card Game Online decks. How do I go about requesting their creation? --Marlofkark (talk) 18:37, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
I just encountered a abuse error while trying to update the page for Zach, a Trainer in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online. I was attempting to remove old content related to decks that are no longer used in the game. Here is the abuse message:
- Editing Zach
- This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action
- was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the
- abuse rule which your action matched is: Vandal filter 2
How do I go about getting authorization to update the page as needed? --Marlofkark (talk) 13:27, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
Vandal filter 2
"Vandal filter 2" abuse error is also preventing me from removing old content from Ella's page. --Marlofkark (talk) 20:13, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- Since you're a newer user and have not yet become autoconfirmed, the software may have mistakenly interpreted the removal of a large amount of information as a vandal edit. I'm a little fuzzy on how it works but I would guess you may be able to do it once the wiki software flags you as autoconfirmed (alternatively, I can do it if you tell me what to remove :P). From the looks of Zach's page, though, it might be better to archive the information on a subpage as the deck was legitimately used by him at one point, just not currently. :P Better check with Maverick Nate on that one. As for the new pages, again, you aren't able to make brand-new articles until you're autoconfirmed, but I can start each one as a stub if you want to finish it ^^' just let me know and I'll do it! Thanks for all your contributions so far! --ZestyCactus 02:56, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Zesty Cactus, if you would create the two stub pages above, I would be happy to finish them! In terms of the old content, I had not thought about preserving it for archival purposes. I had not considered that someone may want to reconstruct the deck. I've got an idea of how to do that on the pages that already exist, since they are not exactly bursting at the seems with content. Otherwise, I am happy to wait until I am autoconfirmed. Appreciate the explanation. --Marlofkark (talk) 17:35, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, if it was me, anyway, I'd like to see them saved for archival purposes, especially with the nature of a constantly-updating online game, it's easy for this kind of information to get lost forever. ^^' it will always be in the wiki page history, anyway, but yeah. Anyhow! I have created Rallying Cry and Mental Might for you! i look forward to seeing you make them into full articles :) --ZestyCactus 04:30, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

New Problem Editing Pages
It seems that sometime in the last week or two, I was autoconfirmed. It is the only event that I can identify that might explain why I am suddenly no longer able to save edits to otherwise seemingly random articles: Glossary, List of Pokémon Trading Card Game Online decks, Generation, Standard format, and 2008-10 Modified format. Meanwhile, I have been successfully in editing many other articles. I do not have a problem committing edits on the above articles with the "Show Preview" button, only the "Save page" button. When I click on save, the browsers spins for a significant amount of time before eventually timing out to a blank white screen. The edits I was trying to make are not committed. Repeating the process several times does not help, nor does trying to to edit from a different computer (I've tried three) or browser (I've tried Chrome and Firefox). Are these pages locked down in some way? Any assistance is appreciated. --Marlofkark (talk) 17:47, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- I just tried leaving this question on User talk:Maverick Nate and [[::User talk:Zesty_Cactus]]'s talk pages, but just ran into the same editing/saving problem. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give!! --Marlofkark (talk) 19:16, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Marlofkark! You're not the only one encountering this problem. Right now, Bulbagarden's servers are experiencing some strange technical difficulties. According to this, it looks like the admins have acknowledged the problem, and are investigating. --リックEO (My message board) 22:24, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- EO, Thanks for the heads up. Glad to know it's a know issue! --Marlofkark (talk) 02:28, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Update: The issue should be fixed now. --リックEO (My message board) 18:46, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
- What a relief. All my pending commits are now saved! --Marlofkark (talk) 02:16, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
Coin
I ended up putting coin pretty much back to the state it was. Stylistically, I like when information is presented all together to read instead of broken into sections that, for the most part, just seem to be made in order to have sections. I'm also not entirely a fan of See also sections within the TCG territory: I find that any relevant page links would naturally exist within the text body in the first place and wouldn't need mentioning at the bottom. After all is said and done, there will probably be a disambiguation table at the bottom of at least coin, as well as many of the other articles that describe more about how the game is played, so the need for see also sections is rather minimal. A lot of the discrepancies between the ways certain TCG articles are presented compared to other TCG articles is caused by how much of the encyclopedia falls under TCG territory (It's something like 40%). Many articles feature an old outdated style while things like Coin feature a newer look and style that coincide more with what we want the TCG section to become. It's an entirely long process.
As for dice. I've only been able to discuss this with Kogoro in private so far, but dice will 100% be getting their own article, instead of simply shoehorned in with coins. Between its roll as a TCG mechanic AND its role as collectible merchandise, the only effective way to represent dice is through their own article.
I wanted to end with saying fantastic job on everything you've done so far. All the pages you've worked on are looking really nice. There are a few things that may end up being modified a bit in the end (such as Theme Deck; that page needs to be organized in such a way that prepares it for the constant release of future products, without getting extremely overwhelming and out of hand. I'm not entirely sure yet if the table you've created does that, but it is definitely leagues ahead of where it was.), but otherwise, everything is really great. Keep up the good work! - Nate, thanks for the feedback! I'm mucking around in things enough now that I'm starting to make changes that could be out of sinc with the direction you and others see things going. I want to be a help, not a hindrance.
- Headings - Maybe it's because I started here by tinkering with the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online article, with lots of big/heading appropriate topics, that I adopted a heading focused mindset that is out of sync. I will avoid overemphasizing in the future.
- See also - I will tone with back as well. When I have the chance, I will go back over some previous edited pages and prune.
- Style - Can you think of a few other articles, in addition to Coin, that feature the newer look/style you all are now striving toward? It could help me assimilate the right things, rather than wander off the ranch. (Question #1)
- Dice - I added a short placeholder in the Glossary until something more appropriate is created.
- Long Lists - I will hold off creating any new tables to help organize some of the incredibly long lists, limiting my table structure to Theme Deck, the bottom of List of Pokémon Trading Card Game Online decks, and Rotation. I just hate seeing all of the wasted screen space on these long lists (though it is probably not as wasteful looking on a tablet or a phone). On the positive side, they are really easy for anyone to edit. I'd much rather live with an "ugly" long list than require significant editing work for someone down the road. See what I did with the 2014-15 Modified format for a different approach that looks somewhat "elegant". Like the Theme Deck approach, it still requires knowledge of building/adding to tables, which is a downside for a casual user just wanting to update a link.
- Question #2: There are two disambiguation pages, Deck and Trainer Kit that I would like to turn into proper articles. Is that a good or bad idea?
- Question #3: How does one leave notes about edits to a given article, as Nate did on when he reverted my changes to the Coin article? It's not part of a given "Discussion" page, but I see them all the time on the "Editor's Hub" Latest Changes.
- Once again, thanks for the feedback! --Marlofkark (talk) 03:25, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- #3 answer: Just below the huge text box where you edit the page, there is a smaller text field headed "Summary:". (If your cursor is in the page's text box and you press Tab, your cursor should move to the Summary text box.) Anything you enter there (within the character limit) will be shown in Recent Changes and the page's History. Tiddlywinks (talk) 03:41, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- #3: All too easy. I haven't had the need to use it yet, but I was curious. I will have the need someday. --Marlofkark (talk) 12:50, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, every sort of long list ends up getting some sort of custom table: Category:Cards by Pokémon, Supporter card, Secret card, etc. It's usually taken case by case basis. Your Theme deck recreation does a good job of fixing what was there (though I also wanted to include cards exclusive to english theme decks, since that information isn't listed all in one place somewhere).
- I'm just a fan of prose writing. It isn't something we get to do very often, since most of the TCG section is quoted from cards, or filling specific data pieces in, so I try to feature longer sections of writing wherever they can be, such as coin. Other places include like, the information section on Triumphant or Boundaries Crossed.
- Deck could probably be turned into its own article, but I'd like to see Trainer Kit be like, a section of Deck. They are simply a more structured version of a regular deck, and don't entirely deserve their own article, especially when deck would be a good place for it. Theme Decks
I don't know why two exist, but I know that we shouldn't have two categories for the same thing. I'm currently translating the 140 cards of Gaia Volcano/Tidal Storm, so I can't get into it right now/figure out what needs to happen, but I ask that you don't add that old category onto pages right now. MaverickNate 21:37, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- Got it. --Marlofkark (talk) 01:11, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
Trainer Tokens and News
The news articles that earn Tokens are the ones with pokemon-news in the URL. Something interesting I've noticed is that reading a news article on one country's portal and then reading it on another has the Token notice still pop up. I wasn't paying attention at the time, so I'm not sure if this actually adds to your total or if it catches it and only reupdates your current total. Something I thought you'd want to look into. glikglak 16:03, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- I appreciate the feedback. I am the type to jump in and make changes (hopefully with some forethought) rather than ask permission. However, I make sure I take a good, long look when someone come in behind me and cleans things up. I hope this helps make my contributions better as time goes on. I agree that your solution to my "Idiosyncrasies" heading/section is far more elegant. Yes, big words are fun, but I was very conscious of it not being the most appropriate given the context. Sometimes a fresh prospective really makes a difference.
- This has been a page that I have been developing for a while now and finally had the time to pull the trigger on. It happened to be one the first topics I was curious about then I first started visiting this site. Somewhere along the way I thought this particular subtopic needed to be a separate heading/section, and I found myself thinking about it inside the box I had created for myself. To switch metaphors, when you love hammers, all problems start to look like they can be solved with a hammer.
- I am exited to look into your country portal idea. I will verify it one way or the other, before also adding your news article clarification. Thanks again. --Marlofkark (talk) 18:53, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- Confirmed! --Marlofkark (talk) 18:30, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
Holofoil
The plan for the Holofoil category was to make a category for each pattern, with Holofoil cards just being a super category. glikglak 15:13, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for saying something. This is why I only changed a few cards. I will either switch them back, or if someone can supply me with a list of pattern types, I'll start making the changes. If no one has done that yet, I can also just start reading individual card pages and start categorizing from there, but I would be restricted to the information already available on the individual card pages. If they do not already specify on the page, I will have no other way of identifying them.
- There is over 2,100 pages with the words holographic still on it, rather than Holofoil. I thought I would take on a simple renaming exercise and start chipping away at it little by little. Then I noticed the category issue. --Marlofkark (talk) 22:58, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- Once Callyne4 and I have finished researching every type of Holofoil, we'll be able to have BulbaBot go and change every instance of Holographic to Holofoil automatically. There's just a ton of cards to sift through, and the three companies have each made their own exclusive types of Holofoil patterns. MaverickNate 02:42, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- Given that you and others got this, I will put things back in terms of categories. It will all be more consistent until you are ready to pull the trigger. Not sure what help I can be other than helping with a more mundane task, but don't be shy about asking. Besides, for the time being, I think I recovered enough from my Japanese exclusive binge last weekend. It is probably best for me to get back to adding info on the Theme Deck page and then start breaking the Japanese exclusive pages down into the four larger subtypes. --Marlofkark (talk) 15:27, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Coin Farming
Pages on strategy and tips, such as your page on Coin Farming, are not appropriate for the mainspace. As such, I've moved it to your userspace. In the future, it may be useful as part of a Pokémon Shuffle walkthrough, but the page does not belong in the mainspace. --Abcboy (talk) 01:19, 13 June 2016 (UTC)
