Toolbox (Japanese: どうぐばこ Toolbox) is the place items are stored in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX. In the original games, it has a maximum capacity of 20 items while in the remake, it starts at 32 and may increase as their rank goes up, up to 56. Items held by team members in the original games are not considered to be in the Toolbox.
If the Toolbox is full, new items cannot be obtained in mystery dungeons or purchased from the Kecleon Shop. Job rewards will be sent to Kangaskhan Storage if the Toolbox is full. In some dungeons, a Kangaskhan Rock can be used to exchange items between the Toolbox and Storage before finishing the dungeon.
Toolbox is obtained as a part of Rescue Team Starter Set after clearing the first mission.

Team Go-Getters owns a Toolbox in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Team Go-Getters Out of the Gate!. It was initially carried by Chikorita, who soon gave it to Squirtle. Due to Team Meanies cleaning up the Kecleon Shop of all supplies, Team Go-Getters was forced to fill their Toolbox up with nothing but Berries for their mission in Sinister Cave. Although most of the Berries were eaten by Ekans of Team Meanies as an act of sabotage, leaving them with just two Oran Berries, Team Go-Getters received unexpected aid from Aunty Kangaskhan of the Kangaskhan Storage, who gifted them with several Corsola Twigs.
