Torchic (Japanese: アチャモ Achamo) is a Fire Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

Torchic (Japanese: アチャモ Achamo) is a Fire-type Pokémon.  Along with Treecko and Mudkip, it is one of three starter Pokémon players can choose from at the beginning of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.
It evolves into Combusken starting at level 16, which evolves into Blaziken starting at level 36.

Torchic comes with the ability Blaze, which increases the power of Fire-type attacks by 50% once the Pokémon has less than one-third of its maximum HP.
Along with Treecko and Mudkip, Torchic is one of the three first partner Pokémon of Hoenn available at the beginning of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire.

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Torchic is a small, chick Pokémon with stubby, downy, yellow wings. Its body is covered with orange feathers and a fluffy coat of down. There is an orange and yellow crest on its head that resembles a flame. Its two thin legs and short beak are a light brownish yellow, and the feet have three toes in front and one in the back. A male Torchic will have a small black speck on its rear that is not present in females.
Torchic are small baby birds that are covered in red and yellow downy feathers. Their wings are underdeveloped and are almost useless aside keeping the Pokémon warm. Their legs and feet however are well developed for running and scratching. They also have a crest on their heads which vaguely resembles a flame. They also possess a flame sac much like other fire Pokémon like Vulpix and Flareon.
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Within Torchic's belly, this Pokémon has a flame sac filled with a burning fire. This internal flame causes Torchic to feel warm if hugged. The warmth feels similar to a warm water bottle. As long as Torchic is alive, the internal flame will burn continuously. When attacked, it will shoot fireballs of 1,800 °F (1,000 °C) at its foes, leaving them scorched black. It dislikes darkness, as it cannot see its surroundings. Torchic will follow its Trainer with unsteady steps. While Torchic is rarely found in the wild, it is known to inhabit List of Pokémon by habitat.  It has been recently seen living in the Terarium of Blueberry Academy.

Behavior
Evolution
Habitat
Torchic evolves into Combusken, which evolves into Blaziken.

NPC appearances
May has a May that she obtained as a Torchic in Get the Show on the Road!. It evolved into Combusken in A Shroomish Skirmish, and then into Blaziken in Once More with Reeling.
* Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: Torchic has a large decorative role, appearing in the introduction, options menu and Travel Mode banner.

Ash, Max and Brock were given the task of watching over a trio of Hoenn starter Pokémon for Nurse Joy while May was practicing with her Beautifly in Having a Wailord of a Time. The Torchic of that three managed to evolve and had to be hidden.

Like her anime counterpart, Sapphire also received a Torchic (nicknamed Chaka) from her father Professor Birch, but, unlike May's, it isn't a crybaby, and loves battles like its trainer. Chaka evolved in Dewford Town during a battle that Sapphire was having against Brawly.

Origin
Origin
It appears to have been based on a chicken hatchling.
Torchic is based on a chicken hatchling. In particular, Torchic's bright orange coloration is based on painted chicks, which are chicks whose feathers are dyed with paint and are typically sold during festivals and fairs. It may also be specifically based on the Basan (legendary bird), a legendary fire-breathing chicken in Japanese folklore.

Torchic's gender difference may be based on Chick sexing#Vent sexing, a chick sexing technique that originated in Japan, where feces is squeezed out of the chick in order to open its cloaca, allowing the chick sexer to observe whether it has a bump inside its cloaca. Normally only male chicks have this bump.

Torchic (Japanese: アチャモ Achamo) is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves into Combusken starting at level 16, which evolves into Blaziken starting at level 36.

Along with Treecko and Mudkip, Torchic is one of the three first partner Pokémon of Hoenn available at the beginning of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire.

Biology

Torchic is a small, chick Pokémon with stubby, downy, yellow wings. Its body is covered with orange feathers and a fluffy coat of down. There is an orange and yellow crest on its head that resembles a flame. Its two thin legs and short beak are a light brownish yellow, and the feet have three toes in front and one in the back. A male Torchic will have a small black speck on its rear that is not present in females.

While Torchic is rarely found in the wild, it is known to inhabit grasslands. It has been recently seen living in the Terarium of Blueberry Academy.

Evolution

Torchic evolves into Combusken, which evolves into Blaziken.

"A Chick Pokémon. It's a Fire-type that has a flame sac in its belly where it produces fireballs reaching 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit--it shoots these out of its mouth. While Torchic is as cute as can be, it evolves into the powerful Combusken when it levels up. It also then becomes a Fire and Fighting combination."

Trivia

Concept Art of Torchic

Origin

Torchic is based on a chicken hatchling. In particular, Torchic's bright orange coloration is based on painted chicks, which are chicks whose feathers are dyed with paint and are typically sold during festivals and fairs.[1] It may also be specifically based on the basan, a legendary fire-breathing chicken in Japanese folklore.

Torchic's gender difference may be based on vent sexing, a chick sexing technique that originated in Japan, where feces is squeezed out of the chick in order to open its cloaca, allowing the chick sexer to observe whether it has a bump inside its cloaca. Normally only male chicks have this bump.

Name origin

Torchic may be a combination of torch and chick (a baby bird).

Achamo may be a combination of 赤ちゃん akachan (baby) and 軍鶏 shamo (a breed of Japanese chicken once raised for fighting).
