The book starts with an Egg floating around in the ocean when suddenly, a submarine barrels through the water, the submarine of Phantom, a dangerous pirate. A metal arm extends out of the submarine and retrieves the Egg. The submarine then surfaces, Phantom is just about to grasp the Egg when a blonde pirate wearing sunglasses steps forward and grabs it, he then runs off, shutting the automatic doors behind him. The blonde pirate pulls off his disguise, it's Jack Walker the Pokémon Ranger! Jackie takes out a radio and contacts Judy, the head of the Ranger Base, telling her that he had recovered the Egg of the Prince. Jackie runs up to the top of the submarine, he could see his rescue ship nearby. Just then Phantom appears with Chatot, his pet bird, and his first mate Galen. Phantom sends out a Pinsir and a Parasect to catch Jackie but before they could Jackie uses his capture stylus and catches a Mantine. Mantine uses Confuse Ray at Pinsir and Parasect, then, with Jackie on its back it heads towards Jackie's rescue ship.
Ash, Brock, May, and Max are lost with no water left, Max's PokéNav can't get a signal, which meant they were far from any town. Suddenly Pikachu sees a giant bubble floating in the distance, the friends quickly run towards it to find that there are lots of floating bubbles of water, all with water Pokémon inside them. Also there was a Meditite and a Medicham. The friends meet a teenage girl, after everyone introduces themselves, they find out that the girl is called Lizabeth who belongs to the Marina Group, a group of performers that do underwater shows. After Lizabeth introduces the rest of her family, Shep, Meredith, and Kyle, everyone is given a glass of cold water. Ash notices that a clown was traveling with the Marina group as well. Max sees a Buizel and plays with it until the Buizel pulls aside a curtain and pushes the button on a jar, lighting it up, the jar seemed to contain an Egg. Kyle quickly comes over and closes the curtain. The Marina Group then decide to take Ash and his friends with them to the next town so they could see their show.
