Region location

Any word yet on where this region is located in relation to Kanto/Johto/Hoenn? --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 16:57, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

North of Kanto. --FabuVinny 17:08, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Is Sinnoh linked to Kanto just like Johto (making a single land mass) or an island-like region (like Hoenn) located North? - Taylor 18:13, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
It's impossible to tell; we don't know if that strip of land to the south ends or not.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 18:33, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Hey, I just had an idea that I wanted to share on it's location compared to Kanto. If you look at the map of Sinnoh, you notice that Mt. Coronet keeps going southward, off the map, along with some land. Now, if you look at the Kanto map, Mt. Moon, as well as parts of land, go northward off the map. Perhaps Mt. Moon and Mt. Coronet connect, and that's how Kanto and Sinnoh connect? I don't know if this was confirmed true or false or anything like that, just voicing my idea.--Shroopliss 22:58, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Many others have suspected that, but I don't imagine Ash sailed out of Pallet all the way around Sinnoh's northern tip to get to Sandgem. It's likely not connected, just like its real-world counterpart is separate. I wanna see the north of Kanto/Johto regions as much as the next guy, but really, not yet, man. Maybe next gen. TTEchidna 08:08, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Sinnoh is connected to Almia, the whole landmass itself is an island.

How does the "old style" map help this article any at all? If anything, the other regions should be updated to look more like new "new style." --Greengiant 19:16, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

I agree, it's pointless here. But in my opinion, we should wait until there's a GSDS (if there is one) so that we can just take the Kanto/Johto map from there, then update the Sevii Islands and Hoenn after that. Sinnoh alone is fine in the "new style" until we get more regions updated in-game. Plus I doubt we'd get a DS map of Johto or Kanto accurate to what they'd be in a possible GSDS. TTEchidna 20:48, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
And besides, why can't you do that? (Hmm, maybe I could try but...) It's the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links08:41 3 Jun 2008

Now I am curious. First of all, Sinnoh is an island nation, off the north/northeast coast of Kanto, as said in the anime and as shown in the anime promotional map release near The Rise of Darkrai's Japanese release last year.

Also, what is "old style" and "new style"?

----HoennMaster 05:19, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

The anime saying Sinnoh is an island actually proves something (I don't think the movie map really does, since like in the games, the southern peninsula is obscured, this time by clouds). Meanwhile, an "old style" map is in the style of the GBA town maps while "new style" is the new DS map style.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 05:25, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

I still don't understand, could you maybe shown a comparison? I mean how could the GBA games have DS maps?

----HoennMaster 06:53, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

A user would have to recreate the GBA style maps to reflect the DS map. ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 13:35, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

NEED to UPDATE

The map here needs to be updated with the reverse world portal. Platinum now has the entrance to the reverse world right around or even on top of spear pillar.--Arceusguy 15:38, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Say what?! Where can this info be found? ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 16:29, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Has the Platinum map been released yet? --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 16:52, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Should it be mentioned that in Platinum, Sinnoh is experiencing a sudden cold climate?BlueJirachiWishMaker 23:17, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

It is the torn world. Reverse World is the upcoming movie.

Map

Just wondering. If you open the Sinnoh Map, if you go to a specific location, it summarizes what's there. Should we talk about it here? ht14 18:55, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Actually, this goes for other routes and locations as well... ht14 18:56, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
That would probably be better located in the articles for the individual locations. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:08, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
So, should we talk about it? ht14 19:57, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

island

Ash calls it Sinnoh island.abcboy 06:15, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

WTF?

WTF? I visited Flower Paradise via AR but it won't show on my town map!! How do you get Flower Paradise on the Town Map? SilverCharmeleon 21:39, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Get there legit. TTEchidna 02:23, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Distortion World

Sinnoh#Areas_of_interest

I don't think that the Distortion World is a part of Sinnoh ^^ ---Samu- 16:26, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, how should we put it, then?Totodilesentret 16:35, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

We really should! I mean, it's not in sinnoh, but the entrance is in Sinnoh!--The Bulb's Master 17:23, 3 August 2009 (UTC) The distortion world IS a part of Sinnoh!!! How else could it be found under cycling road? It doesn't just materialize at will! It has to have somewhere! It is under the cycling road, as you can catch Giratina there... there is also the fourth lake of Sinnoh. Giratina has a part in the Sinnoh myths. If the lake trio has the three main lakes, and Giratina has the fourth, the distortion world is part of Sinnoh, and should be known as such. Road-blocking Pokémon

Should we mention that Sinnoh has no road-blocking Pokémon like in all the other regions, like Snorlax, Sudowoodo, and Kecleon? Gerinych 18:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Those Psyduck blocking the path to Celestic aren't road-blockers? R.A. Hunter Blade 18:17, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Oh, yeah, I forgot about them. I guess we can say that they're the only road-blocking Pokémon that you can't catch right then and there. Gerinych 19:12, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Could this be trivia?

Sinnoh is the first region to have all gyms on the mainland. Kanto was Cinnabar Island, then Johto was Cianwood City, Then Hoenn was Dewford Town. They are all islands. But that would only count for in-game because Canalave City is just islands in the anime right?--Pokéboy93 07:40, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

In-Game Maps

The in-game maps on this site show Newmoon and Fullmoon Island right next to each other, but in the game there is a space between them....why is this? --HoennMaster 00:16, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

I've always wondered that myself. Maybe a beta map? --ケンジガール 00:20, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
You looking at Pt or DP? TTEchidna 00:33, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
Diamond and Platinum. --HoennMaster 00:55, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
Very odd. Mine also has more space between them. DS Phat, DS Lite, or DSi? TTEchidna 01:07, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
DS Lite. --HoennMaster 02:30, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

6 Characters

Shouldn't we add in the Trivia section that Sinnoh is the only region in the main games, heck, all of the games, to have 6 letters in it's name? Or maybe add that it's the only one in the main games to have over 5 letters? Pawsrent 18:01, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm not so keen on this idea. Given the small number of regions, it seems too trivial. Also, Oblivia. —darklordtrom 07:10, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Especially trivial given that we don't know Isshu's English name yet, and NoA could change up the spelling (or even the pronunciation, like with Shinou/Sinnoh) for the English language releases. --AndyPKMN 00:23, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Trivia: City Names

Should it be mentioned that Sinnoh is the only main region of the main games to not have a theme for the city names? Kanto has colours, Johto has plants, Hoenn is two words combined into one, and Unova has clouds, but, to my knowledge, Sinnoh has no theme for the city names.Snipehsheep 18:09, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

No, I don't think it's notable. While Kanto, Jhoto, and Unova do appear to have a common theme the Sinnoh one is a bit of a stretch. Besides there is a restriction on trivia right now so nothing can be added anyway. --Pokemaster97 18:55, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
"Two words combined" is not a theme. Also, we don't add Trivia. --Maxim 21:31, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Artwork

In the artwork, why does the Platinum map not contain the Battle Zone, instead showing open plain? Why does the DP map at the bottom of the page have it? --Abcboy (talk) 21:33, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Entirety

Has anybody anywhere completely mapped out the entirety of Sinnoh? --Abcboy (talk) 02:17, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

What does "神奥" translate to?

Bulbapedia says it translates to "mysterious", but Wikipedia says it translates to "god within". Which is the correct one? Pipcard (talk) 02:28, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

I don't know where they got that translation, but it is not fully right. It is a combination of kami 神 (gods) and oku 奥. The last character means 'deep', as in the back of your house. However, it is often associated with the 'deep north' of Japan, which is what Sinnoh is based on. See for instance "The Narrow Road to the Deep North" 奥の細道 by Matsuo Bashō. As such Sinnoh translates to something like "The Deep North of the Gods". Makes even more sense when you consider Arceus and co. Kitsuimiko (talk) 20:59, 9 November 2023 (JST)
"The Mysterious North" could be a good translation too, as the character is sometimes used like that, but the Deep North part is not unimportant. - unsigned comment from Kitsuimiko (talkcontribs)

I spoke a little too soon, got my big dictionary out and mysterious is one of the meanings, but I still think the definition I posted earlier is more likely. Sorry for the spam Kitsuimiko (talk) 16:00, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

Map from DP

I'm pretty sure the in-game map from DP in the article is from a Hack Rom or shooped:
Sinnoh DP.png

In my game (retail Pearl version), Newmoon Island and Fullmoon Island are 2 spaces away from each other, exactly like in this map, which is listed as Platinum-only:
Sinnoh.png

And what's worse, the incorrect map is in almost EVERY article regarding a location in Sinnoh. hfc2X 16:25, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Sakhalin Territorial Dispute

It has been brought to my attention that Sakhalin Island has been mentioned along with the four southern-most islands of the Kuriles as being disputed, Sakhalin has not been disputed since after the end of WWII when the Treaty of San Fransisco was signed(1951).

I found this on Wikipedia's page on Sakhalin: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sakhalin#Second_World_War

Does this help?

Sinnoh’s former name Hisui is five letters long

The trivia section of Sinnoh being the only region with more then 5 letters in it’s English name is still true but it’s former name, Hisui is 5 letters long can somebody add that please? ~~TurtwigFan4848~~ - unsigned comment from Turtwig Fan4848 (talkcontribs)

I'm not sure what you mean. Hisui is only 5 letters-- Sinnoh is still the only 6+ letter long region name. --celadonk (talk) 01:48, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
What I mean is that well Hisui is Sinnoh’s former name right? And it is five letters long like the other regions meaning that while Sinnoh the current name of the region doesn’t have a 5 letter long name it’s former name Hisui does. So what you could put there is “It’s former name Hisui however is 5 letters long” - unsigned comment from TurtwigFan4848 (talkcontribs)
No real point in starting a discussion if you're not going to give people the time to discuss it before just adding it anyway. We don't have to rush to add new trivia as quickly as possible, it doesn't hurt to wait at least a day or two to hear input from other users. Personally, I feel like this is more of a trivia point about Sinnoh than Hisui, and would be better suited for that page, if people were to agree to its inclusion. Landfish7 02:41, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
Apologies, I meant to say that this would be better suited to add to this page than Hisui, if people agreed to add it. Landfish7 02:45, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
