Origin
Hippowdon is based on a hippopotamus.
Name origin
Hippowdon's name is derived from hippopotamus, powder (referring to the sand it spouts) or power and "don", the Spaninsh word for lord or the greek suffix used in dinosaur names, "-odon" emphasizing teeth.
Kabarudon's name is derived from the Japanese word for hippopotamus (Kaba), which it is based on.
