Pokémon the Movie 2000 is a graphic novel published by VIZ Media in North America and Shōgakukan in Japan. It is a manga-style book (called "Animation Comics" by VIZ at the time of publication, now branded as "Ani-Manga") which retells the plotlines of The Power of One and Pikachu's Rescue Adventure using screenshots from both films. The book credits Hideki Sonoda and Takeshi Shudō as the authors.

Like the Pokémon the First Movie graphic novel, Pokémon the Movie 2000 was originally published in Japan as simply one bound volume. For the North American release, it was split up into five monthly issues: four for The Power of One and one for Pikachu's Rescue Adventure. After the release of the monthly issues, the story was rereleased as one bound volume.

The Pikachu's Rescue Adventure chapter was later reprinted in the All That Pikachu! graphic novel.

Pikachu's Rescue Adventure

When everyone is relaxing, a gust of wind blows Togepi away. The wind takes Togepi into a forest where it falls down a hole. Pikachu and friends, awakened by the commotion, run after it to rescue it.

Psyduck runs too fast and knocks everyone over and into the hole. The hole leads the party to a mysterious part of the forest, where they are caught by a swarm of Ledyba to keep them from falling. The Ledyba take the Pokémon to a giant tree, where they meet an Elekid. Elekid is suspicious of the Pokémon strange to him, so Squirtle begins to act tough, but Pikachu sends a friendly electric spark and the two Pokémon become friends. Once Elekid trusts the Pokémon, many other wild Pokémon emerge from their hiding places throughout the tree.

Elekid appears to know where Togepi is, so it leads the party across a vine bridge deeper into the forest. They find Togepi in an egg's nest with some Exeggcute. It turns out that one of the six Exeggcute is missing and so they have adopted Togepi as a sibling to round out the group. Pikachu and friends decide to search for the missing Exeggcute so that they may take Togepi back with them.

The Pokémon continue deep through the forest, stopping to watch a group of Bellossom dance in a beautiful garden. After hours of searching through forest, caves, and over water, the missing Exeggcute still has not been found. A nasty storm begins, forcing the search to be put on hold to protect Togepi and the remaining Exeggcute from the storm. The Pokémon all work together to keep the tree and the Exeggcute safe from the harsh storm.

After the storm subsides, it turns out that the missing Exeggcute was being kept safe by a Chansey. The Exeggcute are reunited, and evolve into Exeggutor with a Leaf Stone that was found nearby.

By sunset, the Pokémon return to the tree where Ash, Misty and Tracey were napping. The humans do not seem to be aware how long the Pokémon had been away, so their rescue adventure is kept a secret.
