Since when did Ash's Charizard use Submission?--Pokencyclopedia 03:11, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Ash's Charizard used Submission against Magmar during the gym battle with Blaine in Episode 58 or 59.

Basically he just spins around while flying to confuse the opponent before using Seismic Toss. --cbhadha 9:32, 29 June 2007

Gender

What episode was Charizard's gender confirmed? Just curious. TinaTheKirliaFile:281MS.gif 22:04, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't think it was a specific episode, I think it's just because it happens to have a crush on a Charizard with a lighter roar than Ash's and a bow on its head. --PAK Man Talk 23:56, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Ah, just wonderin. ^^; TinaTheKirliaFile:281MS.gif 23:58, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Released?

Well, we don't technically list James's Cacnea as released (so I wonder if we should), but although Ash "released" Charizard, he technically just left it at the Charicific Valley, and it still goes in his Poké Ball without needing to be recaptured. So really, I'm wondering, should Charizard and Squirtle go where Cacnea does? TTEchidna 03:20, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, good point. Well, I really think that should be possible. He does return in extreme battles. (like the Elite Four, Pokémon Frontier) So you're right, he isn't gone, and Charizard is still his. Ash just wants Charizard to feel well, and I really think he doesn't see the point of keeping his Pokémon at Oak's lab when there is a whole place for him.- unsigned comment from TheBlazikenMaster (talkcontribs)

Yeah I agree because Ash just left him there to train. It's basically leaving you're Pokemon at the Daycare! Because 1. He left it there for training 2. It gets stronger, just like in the daycare and 3. There was never any indication it was released. Big Johnno

Where the hell did anyone get "released" from? (GT4GTR 10:23, 10 November 2008 (UTC))

Look guys...

I don't mean too nag, but Charizard was never confirmed male...Errr...Unless a character refers to it as a "he" constantly, then i think it could be ether gender. I mean, but because it likes another Charizard which is a female doesn't mean anything. I mean, Charizard could be a female, and be a lesbian (: I mean, i'm pretty sure Pokémon have sexualities (as in my LeafGreen (Well it was actually my cousins game but i know he didn't cheat on it or anything!), my male Blaziken and male Charizard came out with a normal Torchic egg xD Glitchy much?) Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 19:44, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Entirely correct. I've removed the gender, and if anyone has a convincing argument that shows that this Charizard is male, I'll be happy to hear it. --ニョロトノ666 02:04, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah. That was like calling Ash's Bulbasaur a male because it liked May's Bulbasaur who's female (and that isn't even confirmed). I'm thinking, should we recheck Ash's Sceptile? Because that says it's male because of the whole Megainium thing. --ケンジガール 03:19, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Woah. I didn't think anyone was actually doing to listen to me and just start arguing...But like, i think a Pokémon's gender is only really conformed if someone goes "Oh you have a male ________" or "female ______" or if their constantly referred too as one gender. E.G. Ash's Pikachu constantly (like every episode) being referred too as He, Him, or His. (: But thats just my outlook on it Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 06:37, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
It probably is male but, like most Pokémon genders, that isn't confirmed. We need to start making a hard line here and from the situation with Pikachu, we should stick to "it" unless it is explicitly stated. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 14:17, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Political correctness much? Glinn Mgraw 08:54, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

meh, try finding proof of charizard being female. come on I Dare You!- unsigned comment from Big Johnno (talkcontribs)

And now it's getting out of hand. All for making Charizard, Pikachu, and pretty much everyone on Ash's team male, say aye. Honestly, if we're using the "OH LOL CHARIZARD MIGHT BE A LESBIAN" argument... come on. I'm as supportive of homosexuality as anyone else in their right mind, but really, if we have to wait for Charla to show up and hand Dawn a Charmander egg... TTEchidna 10:07, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
-_-' There is still no logical proof as charizard appeared before GENII. Which showed Genders for the first time, Now charizard being a First Gen Pokémon, The creators had no Idea About its gender, But there is still no proof, I mean Charmander could've been a girl before even turning into a Charmeleon, And as a Charmeleon it was a Boy, And so on, There is lot's of theory about Chari's gender. Oh yeah, Sign your Frikkin' Comments --Force Fire 10:10, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
No proof of any Pokémon's gender. If the freaking gender differences shown by a Pokémon that itself debuted before Gen IV (I'm talking that damned Venusaur now) isn't big enough of a hint for everyone that they do apply in the anime, I don't know what is, Pikachu's dong slipping into a shot or something? Look, here's a hint. If Misty comes back with Gyarados and IT HAS WHITE WHISKERS (as they were blue before) then undoubtedly, completely, we must say that Ash's Pikachu is male, Jessie's Wobbuffet is male, and so on. TTEchidna 10:19, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
It's pathetic. Change back to Male, honestly, this is ridiculous. Glinn Mgraw 10:54, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree that it should be stated to be a male unless somebody can prove it's gay. TheBlazikenMaster 10:57, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Ok so everyone on Ash's team is Male. ~Crystal~Lucario~ 11:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
This discussion isn't over until the page is unprotected. And it's up to an admin to do so. TheBlazikenMaster 11:11, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Look...It shouldn't be assumed Male just because theres no proof what gender it is. It's just sexist saying all Ash's Pokémon are male. |: Gender difference shouldn't count as that was in Gen4, and Charizard is from Gen1/The first Pokémon seasons/whatever. |: Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 15:26, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

If you think that saying that Ash's Pokémon SEEM to be male is sexist, then you need to GROW THE FUCK UP. The anime makes it VERY clear when a Pokémon is a female, either by its appearance, or it behavior (look at Ash's Chikorita). Moreover, the anime NEVER stated that a Pokémon whose gender hadn't been previously revealed, is female, at it would be too bizarre. If they didn't bother at making a Pokémon, girly-like, then the Pokémon is EXTREMELY likely to be a male (again, I have yet to see a case where the opposite happened). But if the writers made it act manly, like they did with Charizard when he is in the presence of Liza's female Charizard, then it's OBVIOUS that it is a male.

Okay, yeah most likely Charizard is male. But being that there are some people that feel that it could be otherwise, maybe we should leave it as unknown until it is 100% confirmed. I mean Pikachu has just as much evidence that it is male as Charizard and yet we still refuse to call it that. It's a little hypocritical.
Oh yeah, and I don't like ignorant bastards calling others dumbasses for thinking differently! You know, people who are that uncomfortable about homosexuality are usually trying to hide their own homosexual feelings. *snap* --ケンジガール 20:08, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Well, I understand that, the word "gay" is often used in a negative way. I still think it's male, but you're right it's not 100% confirmed. When exactly do any of you plan to unlock this page? Just curious... TheBlazikenMaster 20:18, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Some people think differently? Who seriously thinks that, unlike about Pikachu, which I'm about ready to say "throw that crap out the window" because it wouldn't matter if they showed Pikachu's dong on TV to them. TTEchidna 02:15, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Saying that Charizard is "Gen I" doesn't make much of a difference since Gen II was already in development at the time the anime was created (Ho-Oh was in the first episode, after all). So the animators may have already had a grasp on genders even before Gen IV introduced physical differences. ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 16:25, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Honestly, I'm not against homosexuality(my sister has a friend that is gay), but Charizard has to be male, at least in the American version because, they aren't going to promote homosexuality in a show aimed at kids. Pokeman21 19:38, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Uh-huh. --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 23:43, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Ok, this is really stupid. I actually want to edit the page. but i cant cuz of this whole arguement. didnt we agree to be neutral about this stuff? we dont know its gender until it is stated in the original. its same thing with Pikachu or whatever other Pokemon is highly speculated. so can the protection finally end? Mooites 23:57, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

And why does this conversation always have to end up being about homosexuality and Harley?? ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 00:10, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I really agree. Who cares whether or not Charizard is homosexual? I really think this silly discussion should end today. I don't know about the rest of you but I personally don't care if the Charizard is a homosexual or straight. TheBlazikenMaster 00:17, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I second that motion. I'm all for gays on television, but this series will hardly do anything for the community. ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 00:39, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay, so shall we keep it unknown until we see Misty's Gyarados back with white whiskers? Or the Pink Butterfree with black wingdots? Misty has to return SOMETIME during DP... TTEchidna 05:03, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I'd rather vote on keeping it male until the homosexuality has been proven, but I'm voting for unknown instead. Whatever makes the page unprotected. It's bad enough that I can't edit my crappy user page, if the protection will still be here several weeks from when I'm posting this, it will be WAY too out-of-date. TheBlazikenMaster 00:37, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

The page has been unprotected either today or yesterday, I can't remember which. Either way, I highly doubt that this Charizard is gay. People just want to make it as a possibility because no one ever said what the gender is in the series. ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 01:10, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

You're right, I didn't notice, sorry about that. TheBlazikenMaster 01:28, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
I vote we put Charizard as Male because they are not going to promote homosexuality in a show aimed at kids, at least, not in the American Dub. Pokeman21 22:35, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
We aren't voting on anything! It stays as Unknown. MoldyOrange 02:38, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
I still think it's ridiculous to find homosexuality a possibility. I'd like to see another more realistic reason why it stays unknown. TheBlazikenMaster 11:08, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

It stays unknown until an anime character calls it a male or refers to it as a "he". ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 15:48, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

ok so your going to wait until the episode when charizard returns and ash be like "hey guys its charizard...did u guys know hes a male" lol ...not going to happen... look there never going to do stuff like that and u know it , if they were to have said something it should be on the episode when ash caught it or sometime after but since it didnt u should look at its personalities like ..the writers are trying to hint at all of us that charizards a male by giving it male personalities ..there never going to confirm it...i know bulbapedia is strict bout this stuff but u cant just let it be unknown even after the show ends.. Ritchie
To put it simply, YES. --ケンジガール 00:05, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

I too think this is rediculous, there's no chance he's homosexual in a kids show. I think it should be changed to Male. (GT4GTR 10:00, 10 November 2008 (UTC))

Sigh.... And yet we have Harley... --ケンジガール 10:05, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Harley being gay is pure speculation. It was never confirmed. But still, we cannot say Charizard is male until it is confirmed he is male. Pokeman21 1:50, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

I know about Harley, but Ash's Totodile is listed as Male for the same reason, because he fell in love with Azumarill. Surely either Charizard should be changed to Male or Totodile changed to unknown. This is what i mean, there is a lack of consistency with genders here. (GT4GTR 10:20, 10 November 2008 (UTC))

I agree. There should be consistency. Therefore I'll change Totodile to Unknown until someone has solid evidence that it's male. I mean, we have strict guidelines for Ash's Pikachu despite Dawn's Buneary be confirmed female. So should his other Pokémon. --ケンジガール 10:23, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Charizard I think deserves to be called a Male in the page because he has fallen in love with a female pokemon with a bow on it's head and has the name "Charla", what more proof do you need he is male. Honestly I wish that some people on this site had brains for this. De Wolfy is here 14:19, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Charla is obviously a crossdresser. The Dark Fiddler - Smarter than the average bear! 14:22, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Well getting back to planet earth for a second I don't think that is going to happen in pokemon (James does not count since he does this often enough with Jessie). I mean it is so obvious. If Gayness is looked down upon then how do you think romance is looked upon in the anime. Apparently most of Ash's pokemon are classed as things simply for being in love with a female pokemon but all female pokemon have to do to be classed as female is be in love with a male character (or in Bayleef's case Ash) or even just wear flowers or whatever. De Wolfy is here 23:21, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Most of the time the flower wearing and man loving comes with a verbal confirmation. I think that those without SHOULD be removed. The Dark Fiddler - Smarter than the average bear! 23:23, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Another point to make. Similar to abilites, just because a Pokémon is definitely male in the games (e.g. Tauros, Nidoking) doesn't prove that it's male, and the converse is true as well... ht14 23:31, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
I think what it all comes down to is fan speculation, what different people want to think; very few genders have actually been confirmed, either verbally or by noting gender differences in Gen IV, so what's wrong with leaving the rest "Unknown"? At least we're not claiming authority on things we really don't know for sure. It's one of the things I really wish the writers of the show would tell us outright through an interview or something. Lucentas 23:36, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Would Meowth be one of those examples? ht14 23:46, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
The way this goes, very few genders will ever be confirmed. I agree with not having pokemon like Torkoal that don't have any idea but Charizard points to 99% being male. If Charizard's gender can't be put down here there's very few that can and very few that ever will. The way this is going we might just as well remove genders from every pokemon on this site. (GT4GTR 10:04, 22 December 2008 (UTC))
I agree. Change "unknown gender" to male. Those who insist on the possibility of Charizard being a female lesbian are being RIDICULOUS, not only because this is a children's show, but also because Pokémon CAN'T be homosexual (gay Pokémon don't exist in the video games). - unsigned comment from Spideym (talkcontribs)
LIES! Charizard can be be female, Yes, Homosexuality is allowed in a children show, I mean in Japan they don't give a damn about guns, nudity or swearing. The only thing that makes Charizard a male is being attracted to Charla, That is 1 out out the millions of possibility that it could be male.--Force Fire talk 07:42, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Anime aimed at young kids DON'T have homosexuality. The Pokémon anime never did (Harley was never confirmed to be gay). And if we're going to leave Charizard's gender as "unknown" by considering the possibility of it being homosexual, then we should do the same about Ash's Bayleef.
And the humas also. I never heared anyone say Jessie is a girl. Random Chaos 18:36, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

(resenting indent) Charla could be a male you know. It's like stating Dame Edna was female, but is really a man in disguise.--Force Fire talk 07:48, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Now you're getting ridiculous.

We obviously need to discuss which image we want in the article.

I can see obviously that the image keeps changing. My vote would be this, because it actually shows it is Ash's Charizard. While this and this could be any Charizard. Yes, I am very aware of the image title already states who the Charizard belongs to, but people should see who the Charizard belongs to just by looking at the image. 13:56, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm the one who put the one with Ash in it, but the current pic has great quality, so I'm content--KukiTalk 14:00, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Dragon Rage

The note in trivia on when the move dragon rage was first used by Ash's Charizard is wrong and I have tried to change it but everytime I do it gets changed back. Watch episode 112 enter the dragonite. Charizard uses it there and there might even be a time before then when he does. --Pazusalmon 23:43, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

The trivia is saying that it first used Dragonbreath in the battle with Gary. Infact, Dragon Rage was used even before EP112. That was used in EP105 when Charizard begins to trust Ash. --ケンジガール 23:47, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

What pics? You mean the four we have in the article? I honestly think we need more to make a gallery. TheBlazikenMaster 18:37, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Edit War

Alright, we're ending this right now. Edit warring is strictly frowned upon here at Bulbapedia. So why don't we discuss here which screenshot is better?

Personally, I think the one with Charizard preparing to battle is a better screenshot. Why? Because Charizard takes up the entire photo. Yes, you can see Ash in it, but does that really matter? Many of Ash's Pokémon (Corphish, Heracross) don't have screenshots that contain him. Why is this one any different? --PAK Man Talk 14:34, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Heracross does! But u destroyed the gallery--KukiTalk 14:35, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry for doing that, but I needed to stop the immature edit war that was going on. And Heracross doesn't, I just looked at the article. --PAK Man Talk 14:37, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I agree with PAK Man, the one without Ash looks a lot better. I personally can't believe there is an edit war yet again on this article. Why is this article a source for edit wars? I don't know, but I really think it has to end. If I were an admin, I also would have protected the article, because I really hate edit wars, we have a discussion page for a reason. TheBlazikenMaster 15:07, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
I vote for the one with both Ash and Charizard. The one when it is getting ready for battle is hunched over and distorted. The animation in that episode wasnt good in the first place,, and that pose doesnt help. Plus, this shows how big charizard is compared to Ash. Mooites 15:08, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

"Useless"

Under "Trivia" it says "When it was a Charmeleon, it was one of the few (if only) Pokemon that Ash deliberately insulted. He called it "useless" in Attack of the Prehistoric Pokemon. (dub only)" When I heard him say this, I understood it to mean that it was useless to try giving orders to Charmeleon. Bardock 02:34, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

It also forgets the é and a not in-between if and only (I fixed it now, but whoever added it needs to work on their style). I don't watch the anime, but if it's false, go ahead and remove it. --((Marton imos)) 02:39, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
