Seadra (Japanese: シードラ Seadra) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Horsea starting at level 32, and evolves into Kingdra when traded holding a Dragon Scale.
Biology
Physiology
Seadra is a primarily blue sea horse Pokémon. It has a long snout and a number of spikes on its head, to the sides and on the top. Its torso is covered with rough, cream-colored scales. Seadra's pectoral fins have sharp, pointed, cream-colored tips from which it exudes venom. It also has a large tail which is generally coiled up.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Although Seadra is not fully-evolved, it can use Hyper Beam and Giga Impact, since it was fully-evolved in Generation I. Despite not being a Template:Type2 Pokémon, it still can have the ability Poison Point to induce poisoning in foes. Seadra is the only known Pokémon that is not a Poison type, but still can have the ability.
Behavior
Seadra can swim facing backwards by rapidly flapping its fins and its coiled tail. Seadra will find coral reefs to sleep in. Seadra catches its prey by spinning its body to create large whirlpools which tire its foes. Seadra will then swallow the victim whole using its long snout.
After the female Seadra gives birth, the male Seadra will take care of the young and its nest. It will viciously attack those who venture too near to its children.
Seadra also contains a gene which its pre-evolution Horsea did not carry. Whether this gene contributes to its Poison or Dragon attributes is unclear.
Habitat
Seadra sleeps after wriggling itself between the branches of coral. It can be found in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh.

Trivia
- Seadra is the only non-Poison Pokémon that can have Poison Point as an ability.
- Seadra, Cascoon, and Vigoroth are the only Pokémon who lose their pre-evolution's ability, then regain it upon evolution to their final form.
- Although it is not a Template:Type2, Seadra is a Dragon Pokémon (species). It shares this trait with its pre-evolved form, Horsea.
- It does, however become part Template:Type2 when it evolves.
- As of Generation V, Seadra's EV Yield (1 Defense, 1 Sp. Atk) is unique.
Origin
Seadra is based on a seahorse, though its ability to shoot ink resembles that of a squid. The fact that its known as the Dragon Pokémon might be a reference to Leafy sea dragons.
Name origin
Seadra's name is a combination of the words sea and dragon.
In other languages
- German: Seemon - From See (sea) and Monster
- French: Hypocean - From hippocampe (seahorse) and océan (ocean).
- Korean: 시드라 Sideura
- Chinese (Taiwan): 海刺龍 Hǎi Cì Lóng - Literally "Sea sting dragon". The name can also come from 海龍科 (Syngnathidae family).
