Black's battle against Burgh continues, with Tula facing off against Leavanny. Tula attempts to ensnare Leavanny in its electrified web, but it is soon immobilized by its opponent's silk thread. Leavanny then strikes with Leaf Blade, rendering Tula unable to battle. As Leavanny walks away, it suddenly collapses, leading Burgh to realize that Tula had discreetly poisoned it using its own thread.
Burgh has his Dwebble return to the battle stage, and Black sends in Tep against it. As he worries aloud that this may cause Tep to evolve, White happens to arrive to watch the battle. Burgh commands Dwebble to use Smack Down, but Tep swiftly avoids the move. It then uses Ember, but this leaves it vulnerable to another Smack Down. Tep begins to jitter after it is hit, allowing Dwebble to strike again. Right as the attack collides with Tep, it suddenly evolves into Pignite, shoving Dwebble backward and knocking it out. Black cheers for Tep, then turns in shock to see White, who had witnessed everything.
Burgh awards Black with the Insect Badge, but he remains anxious of White's response. Before she can speak, Iris suddenly rushes into the room with her Fraxure carrying an unconscious Bianca. Iris tells the others she believes Bianca had a Pokémon stolen from her, which may be related to a string of other Pokémon disappearances in the city. This leads Black to have Musha clear his mind to focus on the situation. He then notices that since Iris and Bianca arrived, Tep has been sneezing fire. Determining Tep is reacting to a certain kind of dust on Bianca, Black has Tep follow its scent outdoors.
Tep leads the group to a building across the street from the Castelia Gym. After Dwebble breaks down the door, they enter to find an Amoonguss surrounded by dust with a thrashing Litwick in its grasp. Black has Tep knock Amoonguss out, but it has no Trainer in sight. He then spots an opening in the ceiling and has Brav fly the group toward it. On the rooftop, they find Bronius standing with several Team Plasma Grunts. When Bronius sees them, he explains that he was going to use the building to create a "stronghold dedicated to the liberation of Pokémon," but his plan has now been foiled. Angered, Black asks Bronius why he would try to separate Pokémon from their Trainers, prompting him to respond by saying that "heroes" have been misunderstood long before the founding of Unova. Before disappearing with his subordinates, he claims Team Plasma will reunite "the hero and the black lightning bolt."
Later, after the group reunites every stolen Pokémon inside the building with their Trainers, Black takes a moment to review the schedule White had given him before his Gym battle. Realizing the schedule was specifically prepared for a pair of Tepig, he becomes nervous. To his surprise, White arrives to announce she has several new concepts for talents involving a Tepig and a Pignite, along with three gigs lined up before the end of the day. Relieved, Black reaches out to hug Tep, who he reveals has been renamed Nite.
In another area of Castelia City, Cheren receives news of Bianca's recovery. As he and his Snivy head over to visit her at the hospital, he is stopped by a pair from Passerby Analytics HQ who persuade him to fill out their survey. Snivy watches him briefly, then is distracted by the sight of a Zorua walking with another Snivy. When Cheren completes the survey, Snivy notices that a human boy now stands in place of the Zorua.
