Even though the player can choose the player character's uniform number, official artwork depicts their uniform number as "227", which can be read in Japanese as goroawase for 無事な bujina, meaning "safely". It also could be a reference to February 27, the release date of Pokémon Red and Green.
Pre-release media referred to Victor as both "Victor" and "Sword" (Japanese: ソード Sword, Korean: 소드 Sword).
