Lunala (Japanese: ルナアーラ Lunala) is a recurring Pokémon character in the anime that first appeared in SM087.

History

Lunala first appeared in SM087, where it was being chased around by a Necrozma.

Lunala merged with Necrozma

In SM088, it battled the Necrozma, but eventually became absorbed by it, allowing Necrozma to become Dawn Wings Necrozma. It was captured in an electric net by the special Matori Matrix unit in Team Rocket. It freed itself, but after Nebby appeared, it fought against it, until it released Lunala from Necrozma's absorption when it attacked with Sunsteel Strike. Lunala was later apart of Matori Matrix's attempt to capture it and Nebby, but Ash and Gladion attacked the aircraft that Matori Matrix were it that they used to capture Pokémon with. Despite Lillie and Lana's attempt to heal it, Lunala was too badly injured from its fights and was then taken to the Pokémon School where it received more thorough medical attention.

Lunala was then woken up and healed by the power of the nearby Z-Rings and Z-Power Rings in the Pokémon School.

Lunala reappeared in SM089, where after becoming Lunala Full Moon phase, it travelled through an Ultra Wormhole with the Ultra Guardians where they arrived at Poipole's home world where they encountered Naganadel before being attacked by Necrozma.

Personality and characteristics

Lunala is shown to have a caring attitude towards humans, as evident in SM088, where it saved Lillie, a girl it barely knew, from falling when she was knocked off her Ride Altaria. Lunala is also been shown as being playful, as evident by the way it was chasing Nebby through an Ultra Wormhole.
