Illust Story
Illust Story (Japanese: イラストストーリー Illust Story) is a web-based series of standalone short stories published on the official Pokémon Card website during the Sword & Shield Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The first stories, End of the Rainbow and Professor's Research, were published on October 22, 2021 as part of the Pokémon 25th Anniversary celebrations for the Japanese Pokémon Card Game. Subsequent stories were published on the release days of TCG expansions, up until the release of VSTAR Universe. There are 52 stories in the series, with the final installments published on December 22, 2022.
The majority of the stories were written by two authors, Aya Satsuki and Saji Komori. The final 3 installments, labeled as Special stories on the official website, were written by three guest authors, Jin, Yoh Takahashi, and Aoi Yūki.
Six stories, An Unexpected Encounter with Mewtwo, Big Haul! Rah-rah, Magikarp!, Gather Round! To the Wall of Blissey!, A Precious Golden Razz Berry, No Matter What You Look Like, and Aipom vs. Newbie Trainer, were published in English on Pokémon.com to commemorate the international release of the Pokémon GO expansion.[1][2] Naturally, all of them are ones themed around cards from that set, and were dubbed the Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO Card Illustration Stories.[3]
Several booklets were released for certain stories to those shopping at the Pokémon Center stores in Japan, containing the transcript of the story and slots to insert the specific card into the booklet. Additionally, several videos were posted on the Pokémon YouTube channels advertising specific stories.
