Mind Blown (Japanese: ビックリヘッド Surprised Head) is a damage-dealing Fire-type move introduced in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. It is the signature move of Blacephalon.

Effect

Mind Blown inflicts damage, and the user loses half of its maximum HP rounded up, unless the user has Magic Guard. Mind Blown cannot be used when a Pokémon with the Ability Damp is on the field.

The user of Mind Blown will lose HP even if the target is behind a substitute, or is protected against it. If all the other Pokémon fainted before Mind Blown is used, it will not take damage.

Rock Head does not affect Mind Blown. The user of Mind Blown still loses HP if the move misses or if the target has Flash Fire, and the user loses if both Pokémon faint in the same turn as the result of using Mind Blown.

Because it's not considered a recoil move, Reckless doesn't boost the power and if both Pokémon faint as a result of Mind Blown, the user would lose whereas they would normally win with another recoil move.

Other effects

Mind Blown does not exist in the game data of Pokémon Sun and Moon. As a result, a Pokémon knowing Mind Blown cannot be traded from Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon to Sun and Moon, and if a Pokémon in Pokémon Bank knows the move it cannot be withdrawn in Pokémon Sun and Moon. In order to be transferred to Pokémon Sun and Moon, the Pokémon must forget Mind Blown.

Trivia

  • If a Shiny Pokémon uses Mind Blown, the move's animation is different, appearing to use a Shiny Blacephalon's blue head rather than the normal white one.[1] This makes it the only move whose animation differs depending on if the Pokémon is Shiny or not.
