Debut Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction

Avignon Town (Japanese: アブニヨンの町 Avugnon Town) is an anime-exclusive location in Kalos. It is one of the settings of Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. It is overlooked by a large castle.

After spending some time with the group, Diancie was kidnapped by Team Rocket and taken to a clock tower. Like Merilyn and Riot, they wanted to use Diancie to create diamonds for them. Diancie soon created so many diamonds that they flooded the clock tower. Diancie was then freed by Millis Steel. Diancie was reunited with Ash and his friends, and they promised her to help her on her quest to search for Xerneas. Following this, the group and Diancie left Avignon Town.

In the manga

In the movie adaptations

Avignon Town appeared in Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. Unlike in the anime, it was only shown during the battle between Ash's Hawlucha and Astrid's Absol.

Origin

Avignon Town is based on Avignon, a commune in France. The castle is based on Château Frontenac in Quebec City, Canada, but it also draws inspiration from the Palais des Papes, a palace overlooking Avignon.
