Fiery Reflections in Snow (Japanese: 名残り雪、赤く Lingering Snow, Blushing Red) is the second episode of Pokémon: Hisuian Snow. It was first released on The Pokémon Company's official Japanese YouTube channel, The Pokémon Company International's official English YouTube channel, and Pokémon TV on June 8, 2022.
Blurb
After tumbling off a steep cliff, Alec and Hisuian Zorua work together to climb back up. But when Alec returns with a Pokémon in tow, he’s shocked by his father’s reaction!
Plot
Inside a deep, dark wood in Hisui lit only by torchlight, Alec listens to his father recount the tale of the mistreated Zoroark. As the water level of a nearby stream quickly rises, Alec's Hisuian Zoroark mask floats towards him and then glows in a sinister blue light, rising into the air and taking the form of Zoroark itself. Alec is powerless to move as the spectral form reaches a hand towards his face.
Alec wakes up in the snow, realizing he was having a nightmare after falling off the cliff with Zorua and finds Zorua investigating him but still very wary of his movements. He tries to move towards the cliff face's tree roots to climb out, but his right leg is too severely injured from the fall. As Alec sits and quietly sobs, Zorua notices a faint purple glow from the nearby forest before the boy and Pokémon share a quiet moment of understanding together. With that, Alec decides to escape anyway, and with his bruised leg off the ground, he beckons Zorua to climb a secure root with him. Zorua escapes successfully, but as it does, Alec's root snaps, leaving him alone and stranded on the overhang.
Night begins to fall, and Alec is distracted by a falling Medicinal Leek, then several others, gathered by Zorua to help him. He tries taking a bite out of one but finds it inedible. Noticing this, Zorua reveals the leeks' true purpose: it jumps back down, bites off all but the roots of one, and squeezes a single drop of its juice onto Alec's bruise, healing it instantly. Grateful, Alec cleans up the dirtied Zorua and the two new friends return to the Alabaster Forest successfully.
Alec and Zorua trek back towards Alec's father, catching further glimpses of purple glows along the way, and Alec eventually gleefully reunites with his father, who was searching for him. They hug, but his father is terrified of Zorua, knowing it relates to the infamous Zoroark. As they talk, dozens of purple glowing spots materialize around them, revealed to be the work of Zoroark, its many illusory copies, and other Zorua. Alec's Zorua rejoins its parent as Zoroark attacks them with a Bitter Malice that extinguishes Alec's father's torch, and then all the Pokémon disappear, leaving nothing but footprints in the snow. Stunned into silence, the father and son walk back to camp as Alec stares at the Medicinal Leek root he kept, not realizing he dropped his Zoroark mask along the way.
In the present day, an older Alec is shaken out of his flashback by a passenger on his boat telling him that it is time to disembark now that they have arrived at Hisui. Alec is pleased to see that he is finally back. Deep in a nearby forest, however, the peace is disturbed by a space-time distortion, and dozens of Starly, Eevee, and Aipom escape from the rampage of the Alpha Garchomp within.
