In the manga
In the Pokémon Adventures manga
The Aspertia Gym first made its appearance in the Black 2 & White 2 arc Prologue. Hugh first entered the Gym to look for the runaway Purrloin he had planned to give to his sister for her birthday. Although he assumes there was a Gym Leader there to help him capture Purrloin, Hugh's grandfather revealed that since Aspertia City is such a rural area, the Gym is currently empty as not many candidates have come to take it over.
Five years later, Cheren has become the new teacher of the Aspertia Trainer's School. He teaches Class 75, which consists of 150 students from all across the Unova region.
