Userspace policy
Hi! I'm wanted to remind you about the Bulbapedia:Userspace policy linked above in the welcome message. We limit the amount of times users can edit the userspace per day, and you've reached that limit a few times over the past week. I recommend that you check out that rules page one more time, and familiarize yourself with the limits we have (more mainspace edits than userspace edits, and no more than 3 per 24 hour period). Really, if you can make sure you are balancing your userpage edits with enough mainspace content edits, and also saving your userspace edits to do all at once instead of in little chunks, you should be fine. Howdy. Just checking in to remind you to avoid speculation/theorizing in trivia pages, and to also keep edit summaries a bit more professional. It's okay to have a bit of personality in them, but stuff like all caps, swearing, off-topic comments, and emotionally charged language are generally best avoided. - NGL i 100% thought this was an automated message because i put "Clefable" in the edit summary for that Gengar edit i just did until i remembered the Hydro Pump one, you do have to admit that it definitely had to play at least a small role in it returning given some of the other moves in S/V getting huge downgrades (mainly Dynamax Cannon and Dragon Darts), but yeah i'll try not to do that again.
- Also, unrelated, but i just wanted to make sure i'm doing an alright job with the rest of my wiki edits? Mainly stuff like the competitive terminology page. ButSmeargleCan'tUseTheMove (talk) 01:10, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
Colress
All type experts found at the Battle Tree use Pokémon outside of their usual type preferences for the sake of type balance. Outside of the Battle Tree, almost all of Colress's Pokémon are Steel types. Having a couple Pokémon that aren't, like Beheeyem and Rotom, is no more unusual than Bruno using a couple of Onix, Lance using a Gyarados and an Aerodactyl, or Aaron using a Flygon and a Drapion. Those Pokémon still fit their character theme, just like Colress's non-Steel Pokémon do. He just diversifies his team some more for the Battle Tree for the sake of competitive play. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 22:29, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- The thing is with those, they're very obviously type specialists by virtue of being in the Elite Four or Gym Leaders, and in the case of the Battle Tree, Colress is in a while other league. Trainers such as Grimsley and Sophocles stick to thier type, while ones like Mallow and Kiawe only use one mon that doesn't fit the type. Meanwhile Colress has more non-steels than steels. - Guzma also uses more non-Bug Pokémon than Bug types at the Battle Tree while not being a Trial Captain, a Gym Leader, or alike, and yet he is indisputably considered type specialists. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 00:29, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Guzma exclusively uses Bug mons in his regular battles though. Colress seems to moreso specalize in science or sci-fi themed mons, and a good chunk of the ones chosen just so happen to be Steel. With others like Aron's Flygon or Lance's Charizard, they still fit the theme of the type itself. I don't see what Beheeyem has to do with Steel, and before you mention it, yes i know some outliers exist here too like Bruno's Alolan Golem. Still, i think my point stands, with his status as one being this debatable it shouldn't be there. ButSmeargleCan'tUseTheMove (talk) 03:34, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- You've misunderstood. Beheeyem and Rotom fit Colress's theme as a scientist, not his Steel type Pokémon, similar to how one could argue that Bruno's Rock types have more to do with brute force rather than martial arts and fighting. The majority of the Pokémon Colress uses outside Battle Tree are Steel types, and he also uses some at the battle facility itself. If Guzma is counted as a type expert under the same conditions, then so should Colress. A couple outliers in his regular team don't disqualify him as a type specialist, just like it doesn't the few examples I've mentioned before. Him not having an official title does not make his case any different from theirs, just like it doesn't with Guzma. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 08:20, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- The thing with Guzma is that, apart from using all Bug mons, you literally get the Buginium Z after defeating him. We both know about his past with the Trial Captains too, even if he's not either of the former he's still very clearly a Bug specialist. As i said, most other type-breaking instances around the time of Colress still fit the Type itself rather than the character, or with cases like DP Flint and Volkner they just didn't have enough options. His Steel mons also do fit the theme- Magnezone is a UFO so it's perfect for the sci-fi half, Klinklang is a bunch of mechanical gears, often used in machines (although probably not the type Colress uses, the point stands), Metagross is a supercomputer and Magneton is just Magnezone's pre-evo. If he was designed to be a Steel user the outliers would've still fit his type specialty somewhat, look at other examples from around that time like Lance and Aron using mons based on Bugs that aren't Bug. Unlike those two, Beheeyem and arguably Rotom Wash don't fit Steel at all, and Rotom isn't even Unova native so they went out of thier way to give him that.
