Deep Sea Scale
The Deep Sea Scale (Japanese: しんかいのウロコ Deep-Sea Scale), formatted DeepSeaScale prior to Generation VI and Deepseascale in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, is a type of held item introduced in Generation III. It allows Clamperl to evolve into Gorebyss, and also boosts the Special Defense of a Clamperl that holds it.

Effect
In battle
This move effect may be in need of research. Reason: Does it check the Pokémon's species before or after using Transform (in each generation)? You can discuss this on the talk page. |
If held by Clamperl, doubles its Special Defense.
Outside of battle

A Deep Sea Tooth and a Deep Sea Scale appeared in The Evolutionary War. They were used to evolve Keith and Nancy's Clamperl into a Huntail and a Gorebyss, respectively. In this episode, Deep Sea Scales were revealed to be found on Island B of the A-B-C Islands.
A Deep Sea Scale appeared in Showdown At Linoone as one of the items Tokin had picked up.
Trivia
- In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, when pluralized or prefixed with the indefinite article, this item's name is rendered with a lowercase 's' ("DeepseaScales" and "a DeepseaScale", respectively). In Pokémon Platinum and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, both of these instances are corrected to display with a capital 'S' ("DeepSeaScales" and "a DeepSeaScale", respectively), matching how the item's name would normally be rendered.
