Welcome

Welcome to Bulbapedia, Laoris!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your editing:

  • For a basic overview of wiki code, see this page.
  • The manual of style is very important. Make sure to read it. It outlines all official policies of Bulbapedia.
  • The word Pokémon is spelled with a capital P and an accented é. The P, of course, is accessed easily by holding Shift and pressing the P key, while the é can be accessed using Alt + 130 or Alt + 0233 on a Windows computer, and Option + e, then e again on a Mac. Otherwise, you can click it in the character palette below the editbox.
  • The word Poké Ball is spelled as two words. The "Poké" part is identical to the four beginning letters in "Pokémon"; "Ball" is spelled with a captial B (which is, again, accessed by holding Shift and pressing the B key). The spelling "Pokéball" arises frequently, but is incorrect.
  • The word "you" and all forms of it should not be used on encyclopedic pages unless it is a quote from Pokémon media. Bulbapedia is an encyclopedia, not a walkthrough.
  • On talk pages, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
  • The use of link templates is official policy. For an explanation on their use, see the page on shortlinks.
  • If you happen to spot a vandal in the recent changes that has not been dealt with, please see this page for how to deal with it.
  • A list of pages that are linked to, but have not been created, can be found at this page. A list of short articles that may require more information can be found here, while a list of articles that need improvement can be found here.
  • For a future capture, release, trade, or evolution of a Pokémon belonging to a main character of the anime, please do not create or move the page to reflect your suspicions, even if they are shared by many others. Policy here is to wait until the episode in which the event happens takes place is aired, unless there is substantial evidence for the suspicion (such as Brock's Happiny being held in his arms).
  • If you want to make a page about a character you made up, please create it at User:Laoris/(name), not merely (name). Bulbapedia's main namespace is reserved for actual, official Pokémon, items, characters, and locations. Also, please try to make sure that subpages are not categorized by templates used within.
  • A list of the admins that you can contact in case of a problem, can be found here.

Thank you, and have a good time editing here! Boywonder01 05:02, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Tutoring

So only Gen IV remains?--RexRacer -talk 02:13, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, I think I've looked at the page of every Pokémon through Gen III, anyway. But I looked through Gen IV, and it looks like they're all done already. — Laoris (Blah) 02:15, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
I've done through 90 or something. If thats right then I'll edit my page to just the Gen IV tutors--RexRacer -talk 02:17, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
I checked or filled every one for Gen II and III. I went through part of Gen I too, after Gengar, whatever number that is. So I guess it's done... might have missed a move or two here and there, but I guess we don't need your list to fill those in.
I also checked about a third of the Pokémon in Gen IV, but didn't have to fill in moves for any of them, so I got bored with looking through them. Is there anything else to do for Platinum move tutoring? The Pokémon lists on the move pages maybe? Is there an easy way to do those? — Laoris (Blah) 02:23, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Unfortunately, there isn't. They suck really bad and take like two hours a move:P--RexRacer -talk 03:03, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

(resetting indent)Looks like you have started making more number disambigs. Need some help?--RexRacer -talk 23:13, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Sure. I spent the last few hours writing a Perl script to pump out them out, which makes it pretty easy for me to make them. I'll send the script to you if you have Perl or can get it installed. If you don't want to install it on your computer, I might be able to post the script as a website somewhere. — Laoris (Blah) 23:19, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
What's Perl?--RexRacer -talk 23:20, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Just a scripting language, popular with IT folk on Unix/Linux. Used to be used a lot on websites. — Laoris (Blah) 23:24, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
So, you just imput the info and the article comes out?--RexRacer -talk 23:28, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Well I saved all the lists of stuff to a pseudo-database on my computer, so I just have to inpnut a number and the article comes out. — Laoris (Blah) 23:29, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Wow. Well, I'll just let you do that then...--RexRacer -talk 23:31, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Those number disambigs

We were only supposed to go to ten. MaverickNate 13:09, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

I didn't find any place that indicated that, because there wasn't any meaningful discussion on any of the number disambiguation pages. I also posted three messages to Talk:001 at different times clearly specifying my intentions before beginning, at times when I knew that more than one administrator was online. No one commented or responded in any way. There were already a couple past ten to begin with. And there were a couple missing below ten (6 and 7). Furthermore, there were several administrators online when I started doing this, and I know I saw TTE make a Talk Page post about the time I made page 28. I understand that people can't police every edit to Bulbapedia, but I feel like someone should have noticed earlier.
Anyway, my argument for these pages is that frequently I want to know what a Pokémon for a given number is, sometimes because I'm filling in my Pokédex, and sometimes because people on forums ask for Pokémon by number. Up til now, whenever this happened, I would have to open one of the Pokédex lists to find the number, but these pages are 40–90 kb in wikicode with hundreds of small images on each page. I imagine this would put more strain on the server than a number disambiguation page that's smaller than a kb. If there is an easier way to look up a Pokémon by number, I would be interested in hearing it.
Finally, I'm not quite clear on the intention of your comment. Are you instructing me to stop making disambiguation pages? Do you want me to mark the existing ones for deletion? Is it just a notification, and should I continue making disambiguation pages?
PS, even if you don't want the extra number disambiguation pages at all, in making them I did find three errors in image captions on an anime episode list, so it wasn't a total loss. :P — Laoris (Blah) 16:55, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
No, just leave them; they are fine. MaverickNate 23:36, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Icicle Spear

I'm a little confused about what you said in your edit summary. Can you explain it a little better? Chocolate((Talk to Me|Look at My Contributions)) 19:06, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

He apparently tried to tell that Icicle Spear is Shellder's egg move since a baby Shellder will have Icicle Spear even if the mother didn't know the move; usually level-up moves are passed forward only if both parents know the move. UltimateSephiroth (user · talk · contrib) 19:10, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Normally, if a Pokémon learns a move by leveling up, in order for the move to be passed down to a baby when breeding, both parents must know it. And normally with egg moves, only the father needs to know it. So since Shellder can learn Icicle Spear as an egg move, when breeding Shellder, only the father needs to know the move for it to be passed down–it doesn't matter if the mother does or not. — Laoris (Blah) 19:10, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Jessie's Wobbuffet

But Wobbuffet only has one possible ability. I'm confused? — THE TROM — 06:46, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, I know I saw it on a talk page somewhere. I'll try and find it again. — Laoris (Blah) 06:48, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Previously discussed at an admin's talk page. To add an ability to anime Pokémon articles, it must be said that the Pokémon used it. - Kogoro | Talk to me - 06:51, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
There was a discussion about it on Chocolate's page too. Maybe the Project Anime page should list some guidelines for stuff like this. — Laoris (Blah) 06:57, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
OK, I wasn't aware of that. But it really does make sense (especially the Swampert example). Thanks guys. — THE TROM — 06:59, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
