Basic information
- The game takes place on the archipelago known as Oblivia.
- The antagonists are a group of Pokémon kidnappers known as the Pokémon Nappers.
- Non-player characters from the first two games, Professor Hastings and Murph, make appearances once again.
- Players are partnered with the Ukulele Pichu (Japanese: ウクレレピチュー).
- The legendary beasts, the legendary birds, Celebi, and Latios/Latias play important roles in the game.
- Special downloadable missions allow players to receive a Deoxys, whose form is determined by how fast it's captured (multiplayer only), a Manaphy egg, a Shaymin met in a fateful encounter, and a Heatran with Eruption to their Generation IV games.
New features
- The feature Ranger Sign allows players to draw runes on the ground to summon Pokémon, such as the three Legendary Beasts and an Eon.
- Pokémon now also appear on the field for Poké Assists, and they maintain the Assist until they are attacked.
- Certain targets now require the use of Field Moves by multiple Pokémon.
- Up to four players may tackle missions together via a multiplayer mode. Multiplayer mode can also be played with just one player and 3 computer players.
- When using the Fly Field Move, players have a choice to whether directly fly to a place they have been to before or to manually fly. Manually flying allows players to capture Pokémon during their flight.
