Makuhita (Japanese: マクノシタ Makunoshita) is a Fighting-type Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Makuhita are medium-sized yellow Pokémon that are known for their bulkiness. They have a black chest area and have hands that resemble black gloves. They also have red circles on their cheeks and slit-like eyes.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Makuhita, and its evolution, Hariyama, are the only known Pokémon that learn Arm Thrust.

Behavior

Makuhita are constantly training to be the best fighters they can be. They are more then willing to throw their weight around as evidenced by broken trees and smashed rocks are often found where they live. They also constantly eat and sleep to pack more pounds on and to store more energy for evolution.

In the anime

Makuhita first appeared in Brave the Wave as one of Brawly's Pokémon. During the Gym Battle, Makuhita evolved into a Hariyama.

Sheridan had a Makuhita in Cheer Pressure.

A Makuhita made a cameo in Queen of the Serpentine as a pet belonging to Pike Queen Lucy.

Ruby Makuhita is tenacious - it will keep getting up and attacking its foe however many times it is knocked down. Every time it gets back up, this Pokémon stores more energy in its body for evolving.
Sapphire Makuhita has a tireless spirit - it will never give up hope. It eats a lot of food, gets plenty of sleep, and it trains very rigorously. By living that way, this Pokémon packs its body with energy.
Emerald It loves to toughen up its body above all else. If you hear quaking rumbles in a cave, it is the sound of Makuhita undertaking strenuous training.
FireRed It grows stronger by enduring harsh training. It is a gutsy Pokémon that can withstand any attack.

Makuhita is based on a sumo wrestler.

Name origin

Makuhita's name is a shortening of its Japanese name, Makunoshita, which is a variation on 幕下 makushita, the third highest sumo division.
