Generations I-III
Generation I
Hypnosis puts the target to Sleep.
Hypnosis puts the target to sleep.

In the Generation I handheld games only, Hypnosis can affect a target behind a substitute.

Hypnosis can't affect a target that already has a major status ailment.
Hypnosis has an accuracy of 60%.

In Stadium, Hypnosis can't affect a target that has a Substitute.
Generation II
In the Generation II core series games, when an in-game opponent outside of the Battle Tower uses Hypnosis, the move has a 25% chance to fail in addition to its normal chance to miss.

Hypnosis has an accuracy of 60%.
Generation III
Hypnosis has no effect on Pokémon with the Ability Insomnia or Vital Spirit.

Hypnosis can be used as the first move of a Pokémon Contest combination, causing Dream Eater and Nightmare to score double the normal appeal if used in the next turn.

Generation IV onward
In and Pokémon Battle Revolution, Hypnosis's accuracy was changed to 70%. In Platinum, it was changed back to 60%. In link battles between and later versions, the more recent version takes priority and Hypnosis's accuracy is set to 60%.

Hypnosis can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, causing certain moves (Dream Eater, Hex, Nightmare and Wake-Up Slap) to give an extra three appeal points if used in the next turn.

If powered up by a Psychium Z into Z-Hypnosis, the user's Speed stat is raised by one stage.

Generation VIII
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Hypnosis has an accuracy of 70%. It inflicts Drowsy on the target, lasting five turns.

Hypnosis puts the enemy to Status condition (Mystery Dungeon). This move is affected by Magic Coat.

From Super Mystery Dungeon, if Hypnosis is used on an enemy who is already asleep, this will cause the enemy to become terrified. A terrified Pokémon will run away, and cannot use moves or items. If the enemy uses Hypnosis on one of the player's sleeping Pokémon, the Pokémon will become its Status condition (Mystery Dungeon). While in the puppet status, the Pokémon will randomly attack its allies or use items. The player cannot switch to the Pokémon affected with this status. If the leader has the puppet status, the player won't be able to do anything until it wears off. The puppet status will last until the sleep status wears off.

Hypnosis (Japanese: さいみんじゅつ Hypnosis) is a non-damaging Psychic-type move introduced in Generation I.

Effect

Generation I

Hypnosis puts the target to sleep.

In the Generation I handheld games only, Hypnosis can affect a target behind a substitute.

Hypnosis has an accuracy of 60%.

Generation II

In the Generation II core series games, when an in-game opponent outside of the Battle Tower uses Hypnosis, the move has a 25% chance to fail in addition to its normal chance to miss.

In Diamond and Pearl and Pokémon Battle Revolution, Hypnosis's accuracy was changed to 70%. In Platinum, it was changed back to 60%. In link battles between Diamond and Pearl and later versions, the more recent version takes priority and Hypnosis's accuracy is set to 60%.

It inflicts drowsiness on the target, lasting five turns.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

Hypnosis puts the enemy to sleep. This move is affected by Magic Coat.

From Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, if Hypnosis is used on an enemy who is already asleep, this will cause the enemy to become terrified. A terrified Pokémon will run away, and cannot use moves or items. If the enemy uses Hypnosis on one of the player's sleeping Pokémon, the Pokémon will become its puppet. While in the puppet status, the Pokémon will randomly attack its allies or use items. The player cannot switch to the Pokémon affected with this status. If the leader has the puppet status, the player won't be able to do anything until it wears off. The puppet status will last until the sleep status wears off.
