Hop idolizes his older brother, Leon, who along with his partner Pokémon, Charizard, have earned the title of Champion. Wooloo, Hop’s partner Pokémon, is jealous of the admiration shown for Leon’s Charizard and decides to prove that it’s also worthy of the Champion title.
Hop puts on Leon's match against Bea, hoping to learn how to become a Champion just like his older brother. He urges his Wooloo to pay close attention to Charizard's techniques, and the Sheep Pokémon tries its own Flamethrower and flying moves. Hop laughs off Wooloo's attempts at being tough, but admits that they cannot rely on their current attacks of Tackle and Defense Curl to beat Leon anytime soon. Hop declares that they are going to keep training by watching more of Leon's battles. However, Wooloo is unenthused by the prospect and storms out.
While wandering the streets of Postwick, Wooloo spots a poster of Leon and Charizard. It lets out an impersonation of Flamethrower, but this stirs up a nearby Yamper who proceeds to chase Wooloo around. Wooloo manages to get away, and soon spots a Firebreather and his Charmander performing for the crowd. As Wooloo tries its own Flamethrower, a group of Lasses start taking snapshots of the cute Pokémon and asking it to pose. Wooloo runs off again to escape the pressure. It soon approaches a stone ramp, and decides it'll attempt flying like Charizard. Even with a running leap, Wooloo simply plummets down the hillside and into a Wooloo paddock.
The Wooloo bleat to their Trainer, the Turffield Gym Leader Milo, who notices the injured Wooloo. He quickly realizes it isn’t one of his flock after seeing a tag around its neck with an address. Milo has a Taxi Driver pick Wooloo up, though it is hesitant to return home until the Driver's Corviknight's intense stare silences it. Milo waves Wooloo off, while Wooloo slumps into the cab seat feeling despondent. It reflects on seeing all the Trainers caring for the Pokémon. Wooloo turns to its friendship bracelet on its leg and is tearfully reminded of Hop.
Meanwhile, Hop is searching the streets for Wooloo, but no sight of it yet. He rushes out to the surrounding paddocks and calls out for Wooloo in desperation. Flying overhead, Wooloo hears the familiar voice and pokes its head out of the side window to see Hop calling out for it. The wind suddenly picks up, breaking the friendship bracelet. The broken threads capture Hop’s attention, and he looks up to see Wooloo in the Flying Taxi. Hop then starts running after his partner, apologizing for what he said earlier. He declares that he needs Wooloo by his side and when he gets to the League. The Taxi Driver notices Hop, and orders Corviknight to land. However, Wooloo makes a leap of faith, and lands into Hop’s embrace. Happily reunited, Trainer and Pokémon affirm their friendship. Wooloo again pretends to be like Charizard, to which Hop reminds Wooloo that it is already perfect as it is. The Taxi Driver offers Hop and Wooloo a ride home, remarking that the pair certainly have a strong bond.
