Release information
This card was included in the Base Set, first released in the Japanese Expansion Pack. The 1st Edition and Shadowless print runs of this card were spelled Impostor Professor Oak and changed to Imposter for all further print runs and reprints. It was reprinted in the Base Set 2 expansion. The original, Imposter-spelled print was rereleased in the Celebrations expansion's Classic Collection for the Pokémon 25th Anniversary. This print features the 25th Anniversary logo in the bottom right corner of the artwork and lacks Wizards of the Coast from the copyright information. In Japan, it was reprinted as part of the Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition with a red and gold "25th" logo in the bottom right corner of the artwork. Both prints are Confetti Holofoil and have etching similar to Full Art cards.

- The Impostor Professor Oak character has appeared in other Pokémon media, such as How I Became a Pokémon Card and Pokémon Adventures. He has also been featured on other cards.
- In Pokémon Adventures, Sabrina had her Kadabra disguise itself as Professor Oak. The transformation looks extremely similar to this artwork.
Origin
Imposter Professor Oak is based on Professor Oak, a character in the Pokémon games. In particular, this card is based on the Professor Oak card, the two having inverted effects.
