Professor Elm: Difference between revisions

Elm gives one of the three [[starter Pokémon]] of Johto—{{p|Chikorita}}, {{p|Cyndaquil}}, and {{p|Totodile}}—to {{ga|Ethan}}, {{ga|Kris}}{{sup/2|C}}, or {{ga|Lyra}}{{sup/4|HGSS}} so that they will have an easier time getting to [[Mr. Pokémon]]'s house.

Elm is known for being a little scatterbrained and disorganized when he gets wrapped up with his research—to the point that, according to his wife, he sometimes forgets to eat. He holds [[Professor Oak]] in high regards. At the start of {{game5|Gold|Silver|Crystal|HeartGold|SoulSilver}}, he gives the {{player}} their first [[starter Pokémon]].

In addition to their starter, Elm gives the player various items during the game. After the player hatches {{p|Togepi}} from the {{pkmn|Egg}} his assistant gives them in the [[Pokémon Center]]{{sup/2|GSC}}/[[Poké Mart]]{{sup/4|HGSS}} in [[Violet City]], Elm gives them an [[Everstone]]. After the player obtains all eight [[Johto]] [[Badge]]s, Elm gives them a [[Master Ball]]. After the player enters the [[Hall of Fame]], he gives them a [[S.S. Ticket|ticket]] to the [[S.S. Aqua]], allowing them to travel to the neighboring [[Kanto]] region.

Professor Elm gives the player their [[starter Pokémon]] in all [[Johto]]-based [[core series]] games.

Professor Elm appears in the [[Johto]] saga of [[Pokémon Pocket Monsters]]. He recommends {{OBP|Gold|Pocket Monsters}} and {{OBP|Silver|Pocket Monsters}} to Professor Oak as the chosen Trainers to get their first Pokémon. He even introduces them to {{OBP|Red|Pocket Monsters}}. Unlike other media, he was not seen giving away the Johto starters to new Trainers yet. In ''[[PM063|Marill's Special Training to Surpass Pikachu!!]]'', he was seen fighting Professor Oak after a {{p|Marill}} came by and stole some food.

** Also, in the {{pkmn|anime}}, Professor Elm is the only Professor known to give new [[Trainer]]s a starter Pokémon that did not give any to neither {{Ash}} nor [[Ash's friends|his companions]].
