The Pokémon League entrance exam instructor is a character of the day who appeared in The Ultimate Test. Because he was not given an official name, this article will refer to him by his title. He is voiced by Ted Lewis in English and 小西克幸 Katsuyuki Konishi in Japanese.

The instructor

His job is to oversee the entrance exam for the Pokémon League. He also gives Poké Balls to the test-takers during the final portion of the test to compete in a battle against him.

Arbok

Arbok is one of the Pokémon owned by the Pokémon League Entrance Exam Instructor. It was used by Ash as his first Pokémon in the final portion of the test.

The first out of three Pokémon received, Ash sent it out to battle against the instructor's Jolteon. Recognizing it to be a Pokémon Team Rocket also had, Ash wasn't too pleased with what he received. While the instructor commanded an Agility, Ash tried to remember what attacks Arbok knew. He remembered just in time and ordered Arbok to use Glare. This paralyzed Jolteon and stopped it right in its tracks. Ash then called for a Wrap attack, but the move failed, because Ash had forgotten about Jolteon's spikes. This caused Arbok to hop back in great pain. While Arbok was still hopping about, the instructor ordered Jolteon to use Thunder, which instantly fried Arbok and thus rendered it unable to battle.

Later, when Team Rocket attacked, Ash had Arbok attack Jessie with a Wrap attack.

Arbok's known moves are Glare and Wrap.

Weezing
Pokémon League entrance exam instructor's Weezing

Weezing is one of the many Pokémon owned by the Pokémon League Entrance Exam Instructor. It was the second Pokémon used by Ash in the final portion of the exam.

After his Arbok had been defeated, Ash sent out Weezing to battle against the instructor's Flareon. Again, he wasn't too pleased with his choice. Snap noted that his response held the same expression as Weezing and could not help but take a few pictures, which angered Ash all the more. Weezing first successfully dodged Flareon's Flamethrower and then retaliated with a Smog attack. Flareon was then told to launch another Flamethrower at the Smog but it was sent flying back when there was an explosion caused by the collision of the two attacks. Weezing then used SmokeScreen while Flareon used Leer but its Leer was unable to penetrate through the smoke. Weezing then won the battle by using a Tackle while Flareon was still trapped in the smoke. This was the first battle won by Ash in the battle portion of the exam.

Later, when Team Rocket attacked, Ash had Weezing use SmokeScreen on James, causing him unable to breathe. Weezing then used Explosion to send Team Rocket blasting off.

Weezing's known moves are Smog, SmokeScreen, Tackle and Explosion.

Meowth
Pokémon League entrance exam instructor's Meowth

Meowth is one of the Pokémon owned by the Pokémon League Entrance Exam Instructor. It was the third and last Pokémon to be used by Ash in the final portion of the exam.

Ash sent Meowth to battle against the instructor's Vaporeon. While Ash seemed to be rather pleased with the Pokémon he received, his friends in the audience were all rather surprised by Meowth's appearance. Meowth cheered it from the sidelines and shouted for Ash to use Fury Swipes when he was unable to think of a move to use. Ash responded with the attack but Vaporeon used TM13 (Ice Beam), which quickly froze Meowth into a sphere of ice. Angered, Team Rocket's Meowth jumped onto the battlefield and began scratching Ash's face, punishing him for treating a fellow Meowth like so. He then freed the instructor's Meowth with a kick. The instructor wanted Team Rocket's Meowth because it could talk and tried throwing a Poké Ball at it, only to be knocked away by his Ivysaur's Vine Whip. These actions caused Team Rocket to blow its cover.

When Team Rocket attack, Ash ordered Meowth to use Fury Swipes on Team Rocket's Meowth. When Team Rocket was sent blasting off, they blasted off with the wrong Meowth. Team Rocket ended up with the instructor's Meowth while the instructor was given Team Rocket's Meowth by Snap. This temporary switch was fixed in the next episode but the instructor's Meowth was never seen again.

Meowth's only known move is Fury Swipes.

Pikachu

Pikachu is one of the Pokémon owned by the Pokémon League entrance exam instructor. It was the first Pokémon used by James in the final portion of the test.

Pikachu was the first Pokémon used by James of Team Rocket in his battle portion of the exam, sent to battle against the instructor's Graveler. When he first sent it out, James was overjoyed, noting that he had been destroyed by Ash's Pikachu so many times that he knew all of Pikachu's attacks by heart. This was viewed to be a rather lame exclamation by both his team members Jessie and Meowth. James ordered Pikachu to use Thunderbolt and was quite pleased when Pikachu responded to his command. However, Thunderbolt proved to be useless and Graveler responded with a Tackle, which sent Pikachu bouncing off of James's head and rendering it unable to battle. At this point, James expressed his confusion as to why the Thunderbolt had not worked. The instructor explained that Electric attacks did not work against a Ground-type like Graveler. This prompted to James to send out Ivysaur and Charizard and also led to him being expelled from the exam.

Later, Meowth ordered Pikachu to use Thunder on the instructor but the instructor told it to turn around and attack Team Rocket instead. It was at this point that it was officially mentioned that these Pokémon belonged to the instructor because he was the one who trained them.

However, since two against one was against the rules, James was expelled on the spot. He later returned and ordered Ivysaur to attack the instructor with Vine Whip but the instructor ordered Ivysaur to turn around and attack Team Rocket instead. At this point, it was officially mentioned that these Pokémon belonged to the instructor because he was the one who trained them.
