Ilex Forest

Ilex Forest

Keeping walking up until you meet a person from Azalea Town who has two runaway Farfetch'd. He will ask of your aid to return these two Farfetch'd back to him, and once you do, you will receive HM01 (Cut) which is necessary to proceed further into Ilex Forest.

The strategy for capturing the Farfetch'd is to approach them from behind. Stepping on the twigs grabs their attention. When you walk towards the right you will be forced to step on the first patch of twigs. From there, walk around avoiding the other twigs and keep going around on the right until you reach the Farfetch'd, and then press A to capture the first Farfetch'd. For the second one, walk left towards the Farfetch'd and press A. After, go south and proceed towards the right path and step on the first pile of twigs you see. From there walk north ignoring the second pile of twigs and then go south again to capture the last Farfetch'd.

The man will thank you for your help and give you HM01 (Cut). Later if you back to Azalea Town and enter the Charcoal Kiln, you will receive a Charcoal which boosts the power of fire-type moves. The tree in front of you can now be cut down using this HM, once you teach it to one of your Pokémon. Once that is done, walk up towards the left and keeping going until you meet a Kimono girl. She will talk to you and then run off. Go towards the left to find the exit to Ilex Forest and reach Route 34. Before exiting the gatehouse, talking to the lady with the Butterfree will get you TM12 (Taunt).

The Pokémon Day Care

Keep going North from here, battling trainers until you reach the Pokémon Day Care. Here, Kotone/Gold will arrive and talk to the Day Care man outside and then give you a tour of the Pokémon Day Care. Afterward, you will receive both Kotone/Gold's phone number as well as the Day Care man's and the Daycare woman's. Continue north battling more trainers until you finally reach Goldenrod City.

Goldenrod City

Once you reach Goldenrod City, you may wish to heal your Pokémon. Afterward, you are free to explore the city.

Bike Shop

For faster traveling, you may want to get the Bicycle first. If you go north and turn right just where the train tracks are and go south from there to the most bottom building, you will reach the Bike Shop. Once you enter inside and talk to the man, you will receive a free bike.

Goldenrod Department Store

Goldenrod Department Store

To the right of the Pokémon center, instead of a normal Pokémart, is Goldenrod's Department store. It features a variety of items on different floors. If you have been saving money with your mom, you may have received a few phone calls from her telling you she bought you stuff (usually berries). There is a delivery man in any Pokémart if this is the case so talk to him if he is there to receive your items.

The 5th floor has a Trainer that is trading his Machop in exchange for a Drowzee. Also on the 5th floor is a lady who appears on Sundays and depending on the happiness of your Pokémon you will either get TM27 (Return)or TM21 (Frustration).

The 6th floor has a girl that will sell you a lottery ticket for $300 where you can either win berries or TMs.

If you take the elevator, you can go to B1F where you can get a few items by getting the Machoke to push a few boxes around by talking to its trainer.

Radio Tower

If you go for the Gym first you will not be able to because a girl is blocking the way. The only way to gain access to the Gym is to receive the radio card from the Radio Tower in order to proceed further. When you enter the the tower, you will see the Gym leader, Whitney there. Talk to the clerk next to her and answer 5 questions correctly to get a Radio Card for your PokéGear. Afterward, Whitney will return to her Gym.
