PsychosThese are essentially my ultimate team of legendaries, without which I never have them on my teams. It's because of these guys that I'm always excited about a new generation of Pokémon: there's ALWAYS something new I can make into a Psycho. In the beginning, there was just Psycho, my Mewtwo that I caught (luckily) in a Great Ball in Pokémon Red after not saving before the challenge. So I got off the hook there. Whew. After that, Psycho went on to be my main team member during my battles in Pokémon Stadium, but his speed just could not match Blue's Jolteon's, and he fell many times. This was, of course, inevitably, my first encounter with EVs. I fought over and over, mostly to get the prize Pokémon, and soon enough, surprisingly, Psycho was faster. He had become the ultimate fighter. By this time, of course, Generation II had been announced, and I was eagerly awaiting the time at which I would get my own copy of Pokémon Gold, and then would start with Cyndaquil. Due to the fact that despite having advanced knowledge of shiny Pokémon, I had not even thought to look over the move lists of the new Pokémon, I did not ever anticipate any more Psychos. ...but then I played. I got the female Cyndaquil that I wanted on my first try and named her Cyndi Quil as I had planned. I beat the game. I beat Kanto. And then... I went to the Whirl Islands. Not only did I hate it (I needed HM05 (Flash) and HM06 (Whirlpool), talk about useless moves!), but the whole damn underground/underwater caves were confusing. But however I did it, I finally managed to find Lugia. And man, his battle proved to be just as tough as Mewtwo's. Because I knew that the TCG had a set, known as the Neo set, on its way out, I named him for it, and thus Neo Psycho was Psycho's counterpart. But then, well, I went a bit overkill with a GameShark, attempting to cheat and win the Bug-Catching Contest by catching sharked shiny Scizor. Neo was the one that went with me, while the other five stayed. Needless to say, the Scizor remained in my party instead of going to boxes, and when the contest ended, I was returned my Pokémon, which all morphed into the Scizor and became shiny. Psycho was now a shiny Mewtwo with a Scizor's moves, and a Ho-Oh that we had gotten through a trade, known as Hot, was also destroyed. Sadly, my brother's starter Feraligatr was lost as well. But truly, while we could have just turned off the game... saving it was one of the best things we did. To help the now not-as-good Psycho and Neo Psycho, we brought out my brother's Ho-Oh and it became Hot Psycho. Eventually, over the rest of Generation II, more and more Pokémon became Psychos thanks to the Earl's Pokémon Academy feature of Pokémon Stadium 2. Then Generation III came along. More were added to the list of potential Psychos. However, I was a bit put off from the fact that only one of the most powerful Pokémon of the generation was Psychic, and extremely put off when I couldn't trade ahead. Generation III was a dark time for the Psychos. However, since I had no idea we'd ever get FRLG, I brought out EverPsycho, who was the combination of the best of Psycho and Neo Psycho, and NovaPsycho, who was the best that Psychic/Dragon offers... well, to me. And then, of course, we got FireRed, LeafGreen, Colosseum, and XD, and so finally all of the Psychos could get into Gen III. ...then I cheated and got Deoxys. Shh. They never gave away the ticket. So then, we get Gen IV coming along. I look among the Pokémon and see that we get a TM that acts like Recover. Holy crap. Immediately, Noctowl becomes my next plan, as do several others. But of course, as with previous generations, the most powerful legendaries are able to meet my requirements, even Arceus. Now, though, I'm looking ahead, perhaps to see if the TRUE Neo Psycho, which I'd have to catch in the Whirl Islands, will return... But that's only if we get a GSDS... And hey, look. The German translation of the games made me an icon: List of Psychos
ShiniesYou know you all wanted them from the moment you knew of them. I was no different. Researching Gold and Silver on the internet before they came out here told me of the mysterious "red Gyarados that has three pluses by its gender on the status screen and that sparkles when coming from its ball". So I was of course intrigued. Then someone announces that they've found an Oddish that's green and has gold-colored leaves. It has the same File:ShinyGSStars.png that the Gyarados has. That was the first shiny I heard about. And so I waited eagerly for GS. I hoped I could get so lucky as to get a Pokémon like that. First few days of playing, it was great. I started with a female Cyndaquil, which I got on the first try, and began a trek across Johto. I got stuck, however, in Union Cave. It was like... pow. Couldn't figure out where to go. So I'm going out, yet again, to heal my Pokémon after making it halfway in. As I'm about five steps from the exit, suddenly, a wild Pokémon appears. Ch-ch-ch-ch-ching. Shiny Sandshrew, female. I had to get it. I was worried I'd lose it, and I'd never have another chance at it. But I caught it. Lucky that I picked up some Great Balls around beforehand, eh? So of course I'm thrilled to have this Sandshrew. She becomes a Sandslash soon enough, and I got the Gyarados, too. I got Stadium 2, but mostly Psycho and Neo Psycho dominated. Then I see a Dragonite use Outrage. It's the coolest move ever and so I use the Earl's Pokémon Academy feature to see who can learn it. Well, of course, I see that Charizard can because of Dragonite. So I set out to get a Charmander with Outrage. Female Charizard and male Dragonite in the daycare, I'm ready to hatch my first egg. And I do. It's a baby Charmander, and I name him Outrageous. Then I look at his status screen to make sure he has Outrage. He does, but I notice something odd... He has the three stars. "But that means he's shiny" I think... since the colors are so close, I decide to send him into battle (but make sure he doesn't get experience) to be sure. Holy crap, he's shiny. I have a shiny Charmander! I use him in the Little Cup for a short while, realizing soon that he's just not working out. I decide to take him up a notch... to the Poké Cup. He becomes Charmeleon, then Charizard. And wins me some. Meanwhile, though, I'm busy goofing off in Victory Road. No idea why. Maybe I was training... I forget. Anyway, I'm in the final room, and out of nowhere, a Golbat appears. And it's shiny too! So I'm thrilled. Third shiny. I catch it without much difficulty and evolve it into a Crobat. And then... I go into a drought. No shinies in Ruby. FireRed makes me angry because of that DAMN Espeon in the Trainer Tower, and Emerald offers nothing either. DP doesn't help. I still have no shinies... of my own. I traded for all of 'em. But my goal if there is a GSDS is to spend as long as it takes in Union Cave to get another shiny female Sandshrew. |
