Thunder Punch (Japanese: かみなりパンチ Thunder Punch), formatted as ThunderPunch prior to Pokémon X and Y, is a damage-dealing Electric-type move introduced in Generation I.

It is:

It can be thought of as a counterpart to Ice Punch and Fire Punch, having similar names and effects.

Effect

Generation I

ThunderPunch does damage and has a 10% chance of paralyzing the opponent. ThunderPunch cannot paralyze Electric-type Pokémon.

Generation II to V

ThunderPunch can now paralyze Electric-type Pokémon.

ThunderPunch can be used as the first move of a Pokémon Contest combination, causing Fire Punch and Ice Punch to score double the normal appeal if used in the next turn. It can also be used to finish a combination, with the user gaining 4 bonus appeal points if Charge, Fire Punch, or Ice Punch was used in the previous turn.

Generation VI onwards

Thunder Punch can no longer paralyze Electric-type Pokémon once again, due to them now being immune to paralysis.

Thunder Punch can be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if Charge was used in the prior turn.

Generation VIII

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Thunder Punch's PP was reduced from 15 to 10 and its chance of paralyzing the opponent was increased from 10% to 30%.
