In battle
In battle
Generation II
Generation II
Sweet Scent lowers the target's evasion by one stage.
Sweet Scent lowers the evasion of all adjacent opponents by one stage.

In the Generation II core series games, when an in-game opponent outside of the Battle Tower uses Sweet Scent, the move has a 25% chance to fail.

Generations III to V
Generations III to V
Sweet Scent hits both opponents in a Double Battle. In a Triple Battle, Sweet Scent will only hit opposing adjacent Pokémon.
Sweet Scent can be used as the first move of a Pokémon Contest combination, causing Poison Powder, Sleep Powder, and Stun Spore to score double the normal appeal if used in the next turn.

Generation VI onwards
Sweet Scent now lowers the targets' evasion by two stages.

If powered up by a Normalium Z into Z-Sweet Scent, the user's accuracy is raised one stage.

Outside of battle
Generations II and III
Sweet Scent causes wild Pokémon to appear when used as a field move, provided the player is standing in an area where wild Pokémon would normally appear. Sweet Scent will cause a wild encounter even if Repel is in effect.

Generations IV and V
Sweet Scent can only be used under clear weather.

In Diamond and Pearl only, using Sweet Scent (or Honey) inside a shop or Poké Mart will cause the descriptive text of purchasable items to vanish until the player opens the "SELL" menu or leaves the shop. This is known as the List of glitches (Generation IV).

Generation VI
Sweet Scent will initiate a Horde Encounter if Horde Encounters can take place in the location it is used. Otherwise, a normal wild encounter will be triggered.

In X and Y, Sweet Scent can only be used under clear weather. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Sweet Scent is unaffected by the weather.

Generations VI
Generation VII
Sweet Scent lowers the target's evasion by two stages.
Sweet Scent can no longer be used outside of battle.

Outside of battle
Generation VIII
Sweet Scent causes wild Pokémon to appear, provided there are clear weather conditions and the player is standing in an area where wild Pokémon would normally appear. If Repel is in effect, Sweet Scent is prioritized.
In Sword and Shield, Sweet Scent cannot be used outside of battle, but it can be in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

In Generation VI, Sweet Scent causes Pokémon in hordes to appear. If there are no horde battles available in the location Sweet Scent is used, a normal wild encounter will be triggered instead.
Generation IX
Sweet Scent can no longer be used outside of battle.

Sweet Scent (Japanese: あまいかおり Sweet Scent) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation II. It was TM12 in Generation II.

Effect

In battle

Generation II

Sweet Scent lowers the evasion of all adjacent opponents by one stage.

In the Generation II core series games, when an in-game opponent outside of the Battle Tower uses Sweet Scent, the move has a 25% chance to fail.

Generations III to V

Sweet Scent can be used as the first move of a Pokémon Contest combination, causing PoisonPowder, Sleep Powder, and Stun Spore to score double the normal appeal if used in the next turn.

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl only, using Sweet Scent (or Honey) inside a shop or Poké Mart will cause the descriptive text of purchasable items to vanish until the player opens the "SELL" menu or leaves the shop. This is known as the Poké Mart text glitch.

Generation VI

Sweet Scent will initiate a Horde Encounter if Horde Encounters can take place in the location it is used. Otherwise, a normal wild encounter will be triggered.

In Pokémon X and Y, Sweet Scent can only be used under clear weather. In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Sweet Scent is unaffected by the weather.

Generation VII

Sweet Scent can no longer be used outside of battle.

Generation VIII

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Sweet Scent cannot be used outside of battle, but it can be in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Generation IX

Sweet Scent can no longer be used outside of battle.
