Trivia
- Mantyke is the only Pokémon so far that needs another Pokémon to be in the party in order to evolve it.
- It is the second heaviest baby Pokémon behind Munchlax.
- Mantyke, along with Spinarak, Dusknoir and Arbok have patterns that resemble a face on their bodies.
- At a catch rate of 25, Mantyke is second only to the Beldum evolutionary family as the most difficult non-legendary to catch. This makes it more difficult to capture than Dialga or Palkia (25 in comparison to 30).
- Despite what is said in the Pokédex, Mantyke's face on its back didn't differ in the back sprite of HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Origin
Mantyke is based on a baby manta ray.
Name origin
Mantyke is a combination of manta and tyke, a word sometimes used to described a child. Its Japanese name, Tamanta, is a combination of 玉 tama, ball, and manta.
In other languages
- German: Mantirps - From Manta and Knirps (toddler).
- French: Babimanta - From bébé (baby) or baby, and manta.
- Korean: 타만타 Tamanta
- Chinese (Taiwan and Hong Kong): 小球飛魚 Xiǎo Qiú Fēi Yú - Literally "Small ball flying fish".
