Fire
The Fire type (Japanese: ほのおタイプ Flame type) is one of the eighteen types. Fire-type moves are super effective against Bug-, Grass-, Ice-, and Steel Pokémon, while Fire-type Pokémon are weak to Ground-, Rock-, and Water moves.
Notable trainers that specialize in Fire-type Pokémon include Blaine of Cinnabar Island, Flannery of Lavaridge Town, Flint of the Sinnoh Elite Four, and Chili of Striaton City.

Characteristics
Generation VI onwards
The Fire type has its pros and cons defensively. Ground, Rock, and Water moves are all very common, while most of the Fire type's resistances are of little use. Most Fire-type Pokémon will not survive too long in battle; they must deal damage quickly in order to earn their slot on a team. This reflects the nature of fire being a glass cannon; a very destructive force yet at the same time being very fragile. The biggest flaw Fire-types have is that no Pokémon of the type had a Water resistant subtype leaving them all vulnerable to Water-type moves, with the exception of the legendary Pokémon Reshiram, which is a dual Dragon/Fire-type.

However, not only does Fire have five resistances, among them being a key resistance to the powerful Ice, but its also immune to the Burn condition making Pokémon of this type key physical sweepers. Also, most Fire types can at least learn SolarBeam to counter all three of the type's weaknesses.
Additional effects
In Generation I, Fire-type Pokémon cannot get inflicted by the burn status condition by Fire-type moves. In Generation II, Fire-type Pokémon cannot get burned by Fire-type moves, but can get burned by the Normal move Tri Attack. Starting in Generation III, Fire-type Pokémon are completely immune to getting burned by any means. Fire-type Pokémon are also immune to the sea of fire caused by Grass Pledge and Fire Pledge, both introduced in Generation V.

Offensively, Fire is very powerful. The ability to deal super effective damage to Steel-type Pokémon is very useful for Pokémon that specialize in physical moves, as many Steel-type Pokémon typically have high Defense but a low Special Defense and would have little trouble with any physical moves thrown at them. Also Fire moves are generally powerful, with half of its damaging moves having 100 or more for power and 11 out of 16 having 80 or more. While Fire is resisted by four types, two types are hindered by Rock and Dragon therefore keeping their moves rather valuable. While fire types often have below average defensive stats, but high speed, and attack stats, making them lethal damaging Pokémon. Fire is super effective against four types; only Ground and Fighting surpasses it. It ties with Ice and Rock, even though double weaknesses to Ice and Rock are slightly more common. However, Fire is the only type that can cause Paras Parasect, due to the combination of a double weakness and the ability Dry Skin. Many Fire types can now learn Grass attacks, which can make double resistances to Fire useless. (in this case, Water/Rock types, who are doubly weak to Grass)
During harsh sunlight (introduced in Generation II) or Desolate Land (introduced in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), the power of Fire-type moves is increased by 50%. During rain (introduced in Generation II), the power of Fire-type moves is decreased by 50%. During Primordial Sea (introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), all Fire-type moves will fail. When the move Water Sport (introduced in Generation III) is in effect, the power of Fire-type moves is decreased by 67%.

Quantity-wise, Fire-types are rare, with only 26 fully evolved Pokémon among the total amount of 48, of which there are six legendaries and five starter Pokémon. Technically, this means that only fifteen Fire-type Pokémon are easily available. This makes sense as most forms of fire are extremely rare in nature. Fire-types are much rarer in colder regions than in warmer ones, as proven with Hoenn and Sinnoh's Pokédex listings, which have the most and the least Fire-types, respectively, if not counting the Johto Pokédex (which counted all ten Fire-type evolution families that were known at the time). When used in contests, Fire-type moves typically become Beauty moves, but some may be Tough or Smart moves.
If a Pokémon affected by the move Powder (introduced in Generation VI) attempts to use a Fire-type move, they take damage equal to 25% of their maximum HP and cannot execute the move (PP is still consumed).

Only Fire-type Pokémon can use the move Burn Up (introduced in Generation VII), after which the user will no longer be Fire-type.

Pokémon
Pokémon
As of Generation V, there are 48 Fire-type Pokémon or 7.40% of all Pokémon, making it the ninth most common elemental type.
As of Generation IX, Pokémon or % of all Pokémon are Fire-type (counting those that are Fire-type in at least one of their forms, including Primal Reversion and regional forms), causing it to tie with Poison as the 8th most common type among Pokémon after Bug and before Dark and Fighting.

The Pokémon below are listed by their current types. have had their types changed.

Prior to changes in Generation IV, all damaging Fire-type moves were special, but they may now also be physical depending on the attack.

Interacting with the Fire type
A Pokémon with Protean or Libero will become a Fire-type Pokémon if it uses a Fire-type move. A Pokémon with Color Change, Imposter, Forecast, RKS System, or Multitype will become a Fire-type Pokémon if (respectively) it is hit with a Fire-type move, is sent out against a Fire-type opponent, if the weather is sunny, if it is holding a Fire Memory, or if it is holding a Flame Plate or Firium Z.

Fire-type Pokémon are also immune to becoming burned from the Abilities Flame Body or Synchronize.

In the TCG
Fire (TCG)
Similar to the games, Fire-type Pokémon in the TCG are generally weak to Water with no resistances. Fire-type Pokémon are strong against Grass and Metal Pokémon, whilst some Colorless Pokémon can resist this type.

Trivia
Trivia
* All Fire-type starters second evolution is at level 36.
* Generation V introduced the most Fire-type Pokémon of any generation, with 17 (including Rotom and Darmanitan), and Generation IV introduced the fewest, with five.
* In Generation III, all fifteen Fire-type moves were Beauty moves.
* Generation V introduced the most Fire-type moves of any generation, with 11, and Generation VI introduced the fewest, with only one, Mystical Fire.
* In the Hoenn region games, Fire-type moves could be used underwater and Fire-types like Charmander were able to battle underwater, even though its Pokédex entries point out that it will die if its flame goes out.
** The Fire type, tied with the Dragon type, also has the fewest number of non-damaging moves out of all of the types, with only three.
* The three types that Fire is weak to (Ground, Rock, and Water) all share a weakness to Grass attacks.
* Fire was the last type to receive a Pokémon with Water as the other type, only receiving one with Volcanion in Generation VI.
* As of Generation IV, every Fire-type starter family has at least one member whose name begins with a C.
* In Diamond and Pearl, there are only two evolutionary lines of Fire-type Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokédex (the Chimchar and Ponyta evolutionary lines). In Platinum, this was changed with the expansion of the Sinnoh Pokédex to include the Houndour and Magmar families, as well as Flareon.
* Diamond and Pearl have been criticized for the severe lack of Fire-type Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokédex (the Chimchar and Ponyta lines being the only ones), which became apparent when Flint's team only had two Fire-types (the Infernape Rapidash of those two lines). This was fixed in Platinum with the expansion of the Sinnoh Pokédex to include the Houndour, Magmar, and Eevee families.
* In most core series Pokémon games since Generation III, the Fire type has been represented by the color orange. However, in other Pokémon media, including the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the Stadium series, and the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, the Fire type has been associated with the color red. The Fire type is also associated with the color red in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Scarlet and Violet.
* In the main Pokémon games since Generation III, the Fire type has been represented by the color orange. However, in most other Pokémon media, the Fire type has been associated with the color red, including the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the Pokémon Stadium series, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Ironically, one Generation III game is titled Pokémon FireRed, despite being represented by the color orange in the in-game universe. Also, many orange-colored Pokémon (especially Fire-type Pokémon) are placed in the List of Pokémon by color color category, as no orange category exists.
** Also, the Cool condition uses the same shade of orange in its status screen icon as the Fire type's icon does, despite being described as red in-text.
** Also, the Cool attribute uses a similar shade of orange that represents the Fire type, despite being described as red in-text. Strangely, no Fire-type moves are Cool moves.
* According to the Pokédex, the hottest Pokémon are Magcargo and Camerupt, both of which can reach internal temperatures of 18,000 °F (10,000 °C). Incidentally, both Pokémon can also have the Ability Magma Armor.
* With 5 resistances, the Fire type has the second most resistances of all types, falling 6 short of the Steel's 11 resistances.
* Similar to Ice moves, all Fire-type moves were Beautiful moves in Generation III.
* So far, Generation III is the only generation not to have introduced at least one Fire-type legendary Pokémon.
* Generation II is the only generation to have not introduced a Fire-type specialist.
* Fire is unique in that it is the only type able to deal more than double super effective damage. This is possible due to the Paras family's double weakness to fire paired with their ability, Dry Skin, which multiplies fire damage by 1.25, effectively making them take quintuple damage from Fire moves.
* The Fire type is able to deal the highest type-based multiplier. This is possible in harsh sunlight against a dual-type, non-Grass-type Pokémon with Fluffy whose types are both weak to Fire-type attacks, and that has been affected by Forest's Curse and Tar Shot. This would result in a 48× multiplier.
* Generation V has introduced the most Fire-type Pokémon of any generation, with 15 introduced, not counting Darmanitan's second form or Rotom's Heat Form.
** The effects of Flash Fire and Blaze can further boost this to a 72× power multiplier.
* There are no Fire-type Pokémon in the Blue Color Dex group.
** It can also achieve the lowest non-zero type-based multiplier. This is possible in an inverse battle, during rain against a dual-type, non-Grass-type Pokémon whose types are both normally weak to Fire-type attacks, with Thick Fat, Heatproof, or Water Bubble, that has been affected by Forest's Curse, while Water Sport is in effect. This would result in a ~0.0103× (~1/96) multiplier.
* In every Egg Group containing a Fire-type Pokémon, there are at least two Fire-type evolutionary lines. Fire is the only type with this distinction.
* The Fire-type has been paired with every type except Fairy.
** This makes it the only first partner Pokémon type not to have been paired with every other type at least once.
* The Fire type is the only type without a Pokémon in the Water 1.

The Fire type (Japanese: ほのおタイプ Flame type) is one of the eighteen types. Fire-type moves are super effective against Bug-, Grass-, Ice-, and Steel-type Pokémon, while Fire-type Pokémon are weak to Ground-, Rock-, and Water-type moves.

Battle properties

Note: Type effectiveness multipliers may vary in other games outside the core series.

Additional effects

In Generation I, Fire-type Pokémon cannot get inflicted by the burn status condition by Fire-type moves. In Generation II, Fire-type Pokémon cannot get burned by Fire-type moves, but can get burned by the Normal-type move Tri Attack. Starting in Generation III, Fire-type Pokémon are completely immune to getting burned by any means. Fire-type Pokémon are also immune to the sea of fire caused by Grass Pledge and Fire Pledge, both introduced in Generation V.

During harsh sunlight (introduced in Generation II) or extremely harsh sunlight (introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), the power of Fire-type moves is increased by 50%. During rain (introduced in Generation II), the power of Fire-type moves is decreased by 50%. During heavy rain (introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), all Fire-type moves will fail. When the move Water Sport (introduced in Generation III) is in effect, the power of Fire-type moves is decreased by 67%.

Pokémon

As of Generation IX, 87 Pokémon or 8.49% of all Pokémon are Fire-type (counting those that are Fire-type in at least one of their forms, including Primal Reversion and regional forms), causing it to tie with Poison as the 8th most common type among Pokémon after Bug and before Dark and Fighting.

The Pokémon below are listed by their current types. Some Pokémon have had their types changed.

Moves

As of Generation IX, there are 49 Fire-type moves, which makes up 5.24% of all moves (excluding those that are Fire-type only under certain circumstances), making it the 7th most common type among moves, after Electric and before Steel.

Prior to changes in Generation IV, all damaging Fire-type moves were special, but they may now also be physical depending on the attack.

Similar to the games, Fire-type Pokémon in the TCG are generally weak to Water with no resistances. Fire-type Pokémon are strong against Grass and Metal Pokémon, whilst some Colorless Pokémon can resist this type.

Trivia

  • Generation V introduced the most Fire-type Pokémon of any generation, with 17 (including Heat Rotom and Zen Mode Darmanitan), and Generation IV introduced the fewest, with five.
  • Generation V introduced the most Fire-type moves of any generation, with 11, and Generation VI introduced the fewest, with only one, Mystical Fire.
    • The Fire type, tied with the Dragon type, also has the fewest number of non-damaging moves out of all of the types, with only three.
  • Fire was the last type to receive a Pokémon with Water as the other type, only receiving one with Volcanion in Generation VI.
  • In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, there are only two evolutionary lines of Fire-type Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokédex (the Chimchar and Ponyta evolutionary lines). In Pokémon Platinum, this was changed with the expansion of the Sinnoh Pokédex to include the Houndour and Magmar families, as well as Flareon.
  • In most core series Pokémon games since Generation III, the Fire type has been represented by the color orange. However, in other Pokémon media, including the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the Pokémon Stadium series, and the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, the Fire type has been associated with the color red. The Fire type is also associated with the color red in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
    • Also, the Cool condition uses the same shade of orange in its status screen icon as the Fire type's icon does, despite being described as red in-text.
  • According to the Pokédex, the hottest Pokémon are Magcargo and Camerupt, both of which can reach internal temperatures of 18,000 °F (10,000 °C). Incidentally, both Pokémon can also have the Ability Magma Armor.
  • Similar to Ice-type moves, all Fire-type moves were Beautiful moves in Generation III.
  • Generation II is the only generation to have not introduced a Fire-type specialist.
  • The Fire type is able to deal the highest type-based multiplier. This is possible in harsh sunlight against a dual-type, non-Grass-type Pokémon with Fluffy whose types are both weak to Fire-type attacks, and that has been affected by Forest's Curse and Tar Shot. This would result in a 48× multiplier.
    • The effects of Flash Fire and Blaze can further boost this to a 72× power multiplier.
    • It can also achieve the lowest non-zero type-based multiplier.
  • In every Egg Group containing a Fire-type Pokémon, there are at least two Fire-type evolutionary lines. Fire is the only type with this distinction.
  • The Fire-type has been paired with every type except Fairy.
    • This makes it the only first partner Pokémon type not to have been paired with every other type at least once.
  • The Fire type is the only type without a Pokémon in the Water 1 Egg Group.
