Barrage (Japanese: たまなげ Ball Throw) is a damage-dealing Normal-type multi-hit move introduced in Generation I. It is the signature move of Exeggcute and Exeggutor.
Effect
Generation I
Barrage inflicts damage, hitting the target 2-5 times per use. There is a 37.5% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 37.5% chance that it will hit 3 times, a 12.5% chance that it will hit 4 times, and a 12.5% chance that it will hit 5 times. This gives the attack an average power of 45, given that it does not miss. Although only the first hit can critical hit, each successive hit will deal the same amount of damage.
Barrage will end immediately if it breaks a Substitute. Bide and Counter will only acknowledge the last hit of this move.
Generation II and III
Same as in Generation I, except that if the first hit is critical, it doesn't mean that following ones will continue doing the same amount of damage. Any hit has the same chance of being critical.
Generation IV
The effects of Barrage are similar to the previous generations; however, it will continue attacking after a Substitute is broken.
Generation V
Unlike previous generations, if Focus Sash, Focus Band, or Sturdy activate before the last hit is dealt, the following hit will cause the defending Pokémon to faint. Each hit will also cause Weak Armor to activate.
