Articuno (Japanese: フリーザー Freezer) is an Ice/Flying-type Pokémon. It's found in the Kanto Region at Seafoam Island. Articuno appeared in the movie The Power of One. Like Moltres and Zapdos, in the film it was violent and destructive.

Biology

Physiology

Articuno is basically a large, blue bird. It has red eyes, a small gray beak and a crest consisting of three rhombuses on its forehead. Articuno's legs are the same color as it's beak. The feathers on Articuno's chest are light blue. Articuno's tail resembles a streamer.

Gender differences

Articuno is a genderless species.

Special abilities

When Articuno flaps its wings, it can chill the moisture in the air around it, making snow fall.

Behavior

Articuno are said to be benevolent creatures as there have been tales about doomed travelers that have gotten lost in icy mountains being saved by Articuno.

Habitat

Articuno lives in cold places, usually mountains. However, Articuno is an extremely rare Pokemon due to its "Ledgendary" status.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

In the anime

Articuno first appeared in the second movie. Jirarudan attempted to collect Articuno and the two other Legendary Birds in his scheme to capture Lugia.

Another was seen in the episode Freeze Frame. Travelers say that the Articuno watch over them on their journeys through the mountains of Johto. Nurse Joy suggested that many other Articuno probably have nests in other cold locations with high altitudes.

Also, the Frontier Brain Noland uses one against challengers.

Other appearances

Super Smash Brothers Melee

When released from a Poké Ball, Articuno will use a Blizzard attack that freezes any opponent that is caught in it for a few seconds. It is also avalible as a trophy.

SSBM Trophy Information

Clouds gather, the barometer plunges, and fresh snow falls from the frigid air when this legendary Pokémon takes wing. Graceful and elegant, it boasts long tail feathers that flap in the wind and are lovely to behold. As would be expected, its combat moves are based on its cold nature; they include Ice Beam and Blizzard.
