Name origin
Chansey's name is a corruption of chance; like its Japanese name, Lucky, it seems to refer to the rarity of this Pokémon.
Its tendency to carry eggs in a pouch is very monotreme- or marsupial-like. It may also just be based on a general concept of females and motherhood.
Chansey was originally going to use her Japanese name, Lucky, as her English name.
Obtaining
In side games
- Pokémon Stadium 2: Chansey stars in the mini-game "Egg Emergency." Catch the falling eggs, but avoid the Voltorbs.
