Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen
It lays several eggs a day. The eggs are apparently rich in nutrients and extremely delicious.
Pokémon Emerald

Name origin

Chansey's name is a corruption of chance; like its Japanese name, Lucky, it seems to refer to the rarity of this Pokémon.

Its tendency to carry eggs in a pouch is very monotreme- or marsupial-like. It may also just be based on a general concept of females and motherhood.

Chansey was originally going to use her Japanese name, Lucky, as her English name.
