This card was included in the EX Sandstorm expansion, first released in the Japanese Miracle of the Desert expansion. It was also awarded as a prize to those who attended the Pokémon e-League throughout February 2004. The standard prize is a Cosmos Holographic version of the EX Sandstorm print, and winner versions have a "Winner" stamp in the bottom right corner of the artwork. Jumbo versions of the winner prints were also distributed as prizes. In Japan, it was reprinted as a Holofoil ADV-P Promotional card and was 1 of 2 cards that could be earned by players who accumulated enough points by participating in Point Get Battle side events held at each regional Battle Road Summer 2003 venue during July and August 2003. Players could participate in 1 of 3 battle zones: 30-card deck, 60-card deck, or 60-card double battle, and would receive a number of points depending on the outcome of a battle. Upon reaching the requisite number of points, players could redeem either this card, a Chimecho card, a card box, or bandana.
It was reprinted in the EX FireRed & LeafGreen expansion, as well as the Japanese Deoxys and Rayquaza Constructed Starter Decks. It was reprinted again in the EX Emerald expansion, originating from the Rayquaza Half Deck of the Gift Box Emerald. Further reprints were included in the EX Holon Phantoms expansion, the Japanese Earth's Groudon ex and Ocean's Kyogre ex Constructed Starter Decks, the EX Power Keepers expansion, followed by a release in the Japanese World Champions Pack. The latest print of Multi Energy was released during the Diamond & Pearl Series as part of the Mysterious Treasures expansion, which originated from the Japanese Secret of the Lakes expansion and concurrent Rampardos the Attacker and Bastiodon the Defender Half Decks.
