Wonder Guard (Ability)

Revision as of 02:08, 3 June 2008 by Maverick Nate (talk | contribs) (no longer a stub)

Wonder Guard (Japanese: ふしぎなまもり Wonder Guard) is an ability introduced in Generation III that only allows super effective hits. Only one Pokémon has this ability. Wonder Guard may not be Skill Swapped, but it may be Traced. It also does not prevent stat-altering moves, such as Tail Whip or damage from weather effects such as Sandstorm. In addition, the Pokémon can still take damage from status problems and moves which cause status problems, such as PoisonPowder, can still be used. Wonder Guard does not block Struggle from hitting.

Trivia

  • Hackers love to hack Spiritomb or Sableye with this ability, because those Pokémon do not have a weakness, and can therefore only be damaged by status ailments, weather conditions and use of moves such as Foresight. Oddly enough, the move Fire Fang works as well. Another way of countering hacks such as this is by using the move Gastro Acid which eliminates the effect of the foe's ability, thus making the Pokémon vulnerable to non-super effective attacks. Pokémon like Cranidos, its evolution Rampardos and Pinsir will also cancel the Wonder Guard with the ability Mold Breaker.
