Trainer level

The Trainer level (Japanese: トレーナーレベル Trainer level) is a property of the player in Pokémon GO. The player's Trainer level is increased by earning experience (abbreviated XP). Leveling up earns the player items, and certain levels unlock particular items. Once unlocked, items can appear when searching PokéStops.

Leveling up

After reaching level 5, the player can choose a team, which allows them to use Gyms.

Earning experience

The player can earn experience in the following ways:

Hatch a 2 km Egg 200

Defeat a Pokémon in a Gym belonging to another team 100 each
Defeat all Pokémon in a Gym belonging to another team 50
Defeat a Pokémon in a Gym belonging to the player's team (Added Prestige to the Gym) ÷ 10
Defeat all Pokémon in a Gym belonging to the player's team 12
Capture bonus: Curveball 10
Capture bonus: Nice Throw 10
Capture bonus: Great Throw 50
Capture bonus: Excellent Throw 100
Capture bonus: First Throw 50
First catch of the day 500
First catch of the day (seven day streak) 2500
Visit a PokéStop (even if the Bag is full) 50
Visit a PokéStop and gain 6 or more items 100
First PokéStop of the day 500
First PokéStop of the day (seven day streak) 2500
