VS. Lunatone & Solrock (Japanese: VS. ルナトーン & ソルロック VS. Lunatone & Solrock) is the 229th round of the Pokémon Adventures manga in the Ruby & Sapphire arc.
Synopsis
The chapter begins with the legend of Kyogre and Groudon, describing how their feud rocked the world until the Red and Blue Orbs brought it to an end, and the two Pokémon vanished into the depths of the sea, never to be seen again.
Atop Mt. Pyre, the old woman tells her husband that enemies have invaded the mountain, and Tate and Liza are fighting them. The old couple vow to protect the Orbs, as meanwhile, Tate and Liza's Solrock and Lunatone face off against two Slugma. Tate and Liza tell the Magma grunts that between the strength of Cosmic Power and their Pokémon's partial Rock typing, they have the advantage. Lunatone's Rock Slide hits both enemies at once, while Solrock uses Meditate to power up its next move, and the Slugma's Acid Armor isn't enough to protect them from Solrock's extra-powerful Psywave. Tate and Liza tell the grunts to clear off, but suddenly the world quivers in a heat haze, and Tate and Liza begin to feel the effects of the intense heat as the grunts insist they aren't going anywhere.
Tate and Liza continue battling heroically, but Mack is watching from above, laughing as their attacks hit nothing--there are no grunts, it's only an illusion. He reveals to Tate and Liza that they've been wasting their energy this whole time, and leaves them surrounded in flames as he heads higher up the mountain with the Detector, looking for the Red and Blue Orbs. Finally, he reaches the summit, where the old couple and their Chimecho sit guarding the Orbs, and knocks them both down, grinning as he takes the Orbs for himself.
