Release information

The original print of the card was illustrated by Mikio Menjo. This card was reprinted with different art by Ken Ikuji in EX Ruby & Sapphire, EX FireRed & LeafGreen, EX Unseen Forces, EX Power Keepers and in many Japanese Half Decks, which were added to the main set to form the English release. It was reprinted with new art again in Diamond & Pearl and Stormfront, this time by Ryo Ueda. It was reprinted in the HeartGold & SoulSilver expansion with new artwork by Wataru Kawahara. The Japanese release of this print was reclassified as an Item card, but the English did not adopt this name until its release in the Black & White expansion, originating from the Beginning Set, with new artwork by Kent Kanetsuna. It was later reprinted in the English Legendary Treasures expansion, first originating from the Japanese Mewtwo vs Genesect Deck Kit.

Energy Switch was again reprinted with new artwork by 5ban Graphics in the English Furious Fists expansion, first originating as one of several Japanese XY-P Promotional cards that became available in a number of different card boxes. These included the Card Box Xerneas•Yveltal including Energy Card, released on December 13, 2013, the Card Box Primal Groudon•Primal Kyogre including Energy Card, released on December 13, 2014, and the Card Box Mega Mewtwo X•Mega Mewtwo Y including Energy Card, released on September 26, 2015. The Japanese Emerald Break expansion included a Secret print of Energy Switch, which was later printed in the English Roaring Skies expansion. The Furious Fists print was subsequently released as part of the English Generations expansion and in the Japanese BREAK Starter Pack.
