Template talk:Sprite

Add topic

I think this should serve us well. I just gotta make some tweaks and then we gotta get all of the sprites. TTEchidna 07:23, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Problem!

Okay, it works fine for Pokémon with numbers lower than 400. After that, the MS sprites are .png. That's a problem... unless we can make it so that if ndex < 400, it's .gif, and ndex > 400 it's .png? TTEchidna 07:37, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

No, I'm not planning on cheating out of this one. I didn't realize the person who finished broke the standardization so blatantly. I'll upload the remainder as .gif. --Pie ~ 07:41, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Too soon?

Wouldn't it be better to actually upload the sprites before putting the template on the Pokémon pages? Currently, most usages of this template are full of red links. --FabuVinny T-C-S 20:56, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

I'll be uploading the rest of the images soon. The current G/S ones are not correctly colored, the few that are there at least. MK 13:02, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Animated icons

I added a way to include an animated icon instead of the still one. At the end of where you are defining variables, just type:

animated=1|

For example:

Gen Game
I Red Blue Yellow Red (Ja) Green Back
This Pokémon did not appear during Generation I.
II Gold Silver Crystal   Back
This Pokémon did not appear during Generation II.
III Ruby Sapphire Emerald FireRed LeafGreen Back
This Pokémon did not appear during Generation III.
IV Diamond Pearl Platinum HeartGold SoulSilver Back

V Black White Black 2 White 2 Back

For other sprites and images, please see Uxie images on Bulbagarden Archives.

The only problem is that the animated icon must be uploaded with the name of:

Ani###MS.gif

Where ### is the Pokémon's National Dex number. The icons for Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf have already been uploaded by me. --Shiny NoctowlTalk | ContribsFile:Ani480MS.gif 01:01, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Continuing from there, TTE uploaded the rest of Generation IV. While I, myself, have uploaded the rest of the other Generations. File:Ani475MS.gif Agent #448 | File:Ani282MS.gifThis will put you off eating for life! 08:43, 29 November 2007 (UTC) IN OTHER WORDS: THEY ARE DONE...

Remember!!

Remember to set the Gender to "None", instead of both. Both is only for Pokémon that actually have a gender difference - none goes for Male and Female only Pokémon too. Putting both, male or female sets a "m" or "f" next to the filename and such, so even if the D/P sprite is uploaded, it won't show up. Just wanted to put this up here. TinaTheKirlia File:281MS.gif 18:43, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

It's all because I fail at template creation. TTEchidna 18:49, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Green

Please relabel "Green" as "Red/Green (J)" or something. I'd do it myself but can't for the life of me figure out how to edit this template. MK 12:59, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Did so. TTEchidna 02:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

R&S?

There seem to be an awful shortage of R&S Sprites. As they all appear to just be inanimate Emerald Sprites, they can't be that hard to get, can they? Maybe someone could start on that? I would myself, but I'd probably be breaking some rule. --Vladek

Trozei?

I dunno if the Trozei sprites should be in this... they don't really fit with the rest of them, which are main series sprites. Plus, the placement... um, is not good. TTEchidna 01:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Yea, if we even are going to have them, they should be placed differently in the template. --File:Spr 3e 059.gifFile:Spr 3e 132.gifTheryguy512 File:Trozeiani025.gif 01:05, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

I'd think it'd be best to have a separate, non-main series sprite template for them, so as to include the MD and MD2 sprites, Pinball, Pinball RS, and so on... TTEchidna 01:17, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
But those sprites will go next to the Trozei sprites. What happened to the patience expressed for the first set of sprites? --FabuVinny T-C-S 02:38, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, remember, not everything's available in Pinball/RS, and the means of showing the MD/2 sprites would make it difficult... plus it'd be an issue to include all of those on the same line if they're in different generations and stuff. Maybe adding a (gamename) parameter to the template for each game, then on "no" have "This Pokémon did not appear in (game name)", and on yes, have the sprite.
Let's see... we have Trozei, Pinball, Pinball RS, MD1, and MD2, right? So essentially, it'd just be
Sprites
Gen Main series games
I Red Blue Yellow Red (Ja) Green Back
II Gold Silver Crystal   Back
III Ruby Sapphire Emerald FireRed LeafGreen Back
IV Diamond Pearl   Back
  Side games
Pinball Pinball R&S MD MD2 Trozei
{{{pinball}}} {{{pinballrs}}} {{{md}}} {{{md2}}} {{{trozei}}}

One of them, of course, would get a colspan of 2, just to keep consistency with the rest of the table. I would, however, definitely say we shouldn't include the side game series with the main, generation-driven subtemplates, since these games aren't totally dependent on their generation of release (Pinball RS has Totodile and Cyndaquil, but no Feraligatr or Typhlosion). We'll likely have to dip into the if-testers... or something, I dunno. Maybe if we mess around enough we can make a side-series subtemplate for it, at the very least. Yes? No? TTEchidna 04:35, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Gah! I've just realised that the Pinball games would be even more complicated since all Pokémon in the game's dex get a portrait but those only available through evolution don't get a sprite.
With that said, Trozei and Mystery Dungeon are easy since they have equal sprites for all 386. And there's already a set of Gen I Trozei sprites up on the Archives... --FabuVinny T-C-S 20:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Hmm. So we'll have to do something special there. Ah well. We can figure it out soon. How about the table setup we have now, and for Pinball and Pinball RS, we'd have something that'll tell whether it's an evolved/unevolved Pokémon in them? TTEchidna GSDS! 01:30, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
I've discovered one saving grace: All the Pokémon that appear in both Pinball games do not change whether they have a sprite or not, despite a lot more middle evolutions getting one in Pinball RS. So we can set up that and whether they are in the hdex seperately. --FabuVinny T-C-S 22:20, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

...and Deoxys isn't in Pinball RS in any form. *sigh* The sprites are uploaded here but setting them up on Bulbapedia is beyond me. --FabuVinny T-C-S 22:03, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

As you may have noticed, the recent addition of images to Template:Side game has solved this problem. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 10:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Now to just add the ndex number to them all... TTEchidna 16:14, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
I did that while inserting the Pinball sections. 'Twas not an issue. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:45, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Footprints

Any chance of editing this thing so we can add footprint sprites later on? I'd give it a go myslef, but I'll just end up making a freaking big mess...--Manga-in-a-bottle 02:10, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I personally think it should go in the Pokémon Infobox... TTEchidnaFire echy 02:24, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Yea, same. --Theryguy512 11:56, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

needs going over

On a lot of Pokémon page its just a block of broken links.

-Lord Mada-

It's not a problem with the template. It's that the sprites aren't uploaded. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:53, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Current technical issues with the Archives don't help either... --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 10:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Platinum

should we add a 'platinum' section to the box? OrigamiGuy-Talk-Contribs 18:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Not until we actually have access to said sprites. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:42, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I added the new Giratina sprite too the Giratina page...That counts as a Platinum Sprite! Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 19:48, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
1) That is besides the point. We still have to wait to get the rest of them.
2) The name of the image doesn't use the coding of the sprite table anyway. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I think that adding Platinum to the chart will harm no one, and sprites will just be added later. hfc2X 23:48, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
A lot of broken image links is what we don't want. Until the game is out, it is utterly pointless and just makes the table look bad. And as I am currently making efforts to fix that problem in the Gen IV section, I would personally find this move extremely annoying. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 23:53, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Eh, we've got a bunch of broken imagelinks anyway, what are 492 more gonna hurt?
I also wanted to add... there must be a way of putting the Pokémon's secondary type color in the template somewhere... TTEchidna 02:48, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Anyone, suggestions for how the secondary type can be added? TTEchidna 03:24, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Primary background, secondary border? Posted by the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links07:48 18 May 2008
what about on the left side? (the 'generations' border) hfc2X 22:35, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
I was thinking it could be the Generations heading, but it wouldn't look good in my eyes if it were a single-type Pokémon. TTEchidna 23:04, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
If the pokemon is a single-type, then count its type as primary and seconday, just as the game does. hfc2X 23:39, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
He means that it would look like crap if the same color appeared twice in two rows...Posted by the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links13:33 20 May 2008
Unnecessary Platinum links also make it look crap. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 15:58, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, Autumn ain't that far away. We'll have the sprites in no time! -fakes an optimistic attitude- Posted by the Θρtιmαtum♏Talk|Links08:19 21 May 2008

Deoxys?

I was looking at Deoxys' page and I realized that for the Gen III Attack Forme and the Defense Forme, the Template is using the sprites from Ruby and Sapphire and they show the Normal Forme. Can someone fix it? hfc2X 03:29, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes! TTEchidna 07:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Speaking of Deoxys, does anyone know where that normal forme Emerald sprite came from? Does the game have animated sprites for the Attack and Defense formes too? --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 10:01, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Nopes. Emerald has only 2 sprites for Deoxys: the Normal Forme and Speed Forme. The Normal Forme is shown when you battle Deoxys for catching it and the Speed Forme is the normal Deoxys for the game. Both of them have the same animation. hfc2X 15:09, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Not done yet...

But here's the coding for it when I return tonight...

No one screw with it until I return. It's almost done, but I don't have the time to finish because my brother took the car. So in closing, DON'T ANYONE MESS WITH THE NEW SUBTEMPLATES OR THE MAIN TEMPLATE. GOT IT? TTEchidna 19:48, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Please explain it to me... I see no diferences between this one and the old one =( hfc2X 01:09, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Haven't updated it yet. TTEchidna 05:14, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Overall I think it's set... all we need now is to delete the old subtemplates and wait on Pt's release to get the new minisprites and backsprites for Giratina and Shaymin, and battle sprites for the rest of them... TTEchidna 06:57, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
And upload the remaining Gen II+III images... So why are we hiding the sprites now? (The page loads the images anyway). --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 13:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Gen I

All front sprites from Gen I are reversed, this caused problems with the Poliwag's family as some users thought that the swirls changed directions between generations and added that to the trivia (and maybe they'll add it again)... should I fix all of them? hfc2X 22:25, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

So how to standardize...

I know for the FRLG sprites we have a different thing for those which are and those which aren't in the Kanto dex (and Teddiursa). The problem is that it's not as clear cut as ndex < 152 for Platinum sprites... TTEchidna 01:39, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

why?

Can someone please tell me why its suddenly hidden? I like it visible, and I dont see why its less important than the move templates or or other statistics. --Mooites Talk to me, baby! 02:05, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Maybe because it's just showing what it looks like?~Ποκεμανιακα0β 02:06, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
whats that supposed to mean? On a Pokemon's page, the box with the sprites is hidden. why? why is it less important than the tutored move box? --Mooites Talk to me, baby! 02:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't know. I actually prefer it shown as well. If we're going to hide this, we may as well hide all the other templates, too. --((Marton imos)) 02:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Um, I guess what's more important is what something does, not what it looks like.~Ποκεμανιακα0β 02:18, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
And this doesn't do anything, until you click on "show." Seriously, why was it changed to be like that? --((Marton imos)) 03:15, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
I dunno. It was suggested that it be hidden by default when we first got that coding. If everyone wants it unhid, though... Got it. TTEchidna 03:41, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Proposed move

I think this template should be moved to "Template:Sprites", because you're obviously gonna see more than one sprite on any page using this template. So, I decided that we should do a vote to see if the template should be moved or not. Please vote for either "Move" or "Don't move" with your reasoning, and be sure to number your comments. --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 13:18, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Move

  1. As the proposer, I say that we should move it. --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 13:18, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Don't move

  1. If we made a move, we'd have to change at least 493 pages. And if the template's working fine at the current name, I see no reason to move it. --Shiningpikablu252 15:11, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
  2. There is no problem with the template as it is now. MoldyOrange 15:16, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
  3. You can't see the name of the template in a page anyways. There is no reason to move it. hfc2X 15:37, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
  4. Oh my fuckin god it's just a stupid name~Ποκεμανιακα0β 15:41, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Return to "Sprite" page.
