Info about Valerie

Apparently, Valerie is a fashion designer from Johto, as stated by a random NPC who randomly appears sometimes in a hotel across Kalos. Proof:

Gym Battle Mawile Illegal Move?

Did anyone notice that Valerie's level 38 Mawile knows Iron Defense, something it cannot legitimately know until level 41?

Just a guy... Arceus42 (talk) 13:42, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm sure Mawile can be bred to know the move if both its parents knew it, or it can be tutored it any time in an earlier generation. As long as either is the case, it is legitimate. Berrenta (talk) 15:46, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Mawile learns the move by tutoring in B2W2. Արիանո 15:52, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Huh...That I did not know. I thought it was just the current generation. Thanks to you both! --Just a guy... Arceus42 (talk) 18:28, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Her Style

Can somebody please add this to her article.

Her style is a fusion of Western and Japanese elements. She's from Johto originally and moved to Kalos. The sleeves on her dress are Furisode style kimono sleeves. Normally furisode sleeves are long straight, and have a soft mandarin curve at the bottom edge. Valerie's sleeves are butterfly shaped. The sash is a corset and obi fusion. Her shoes are a hybrid of Western style Platform and okobo. Okobo are special geta worn by Giesha and Maiko (apprentice geisha).

Her makeup. Her eyebrows are done in Kabuki theater stage style. Her overly large eyes are suppose to reflect a character's youth or innocence.

Well the only proof I have is I'm into Japanese and European fashion, Design and art in general. I have studied her official character design by Ken Sugimori. Somebody scanned the Pokémon X and Y art book and posted the scans on Serrebii.net It shows details of her face, feet ect. I just used that to figure it out. I was working on a custom doll so that's why I did all that detective work. You may see pics of my work at http://thundercat2.deviantart.com/

As for her hands. They are tucked in the sleeves! If you ever watch a Kimono fashion show you will notice that models will tuck their hands in the sleeves and hold their arms out.

This is because the art details on Kimono are mostly on the sleeves! The models do this so they can show off the wonderful art. :)

Seriously! if you can't watch one in person just go to YouTube. They have lots of Kimono videos. - unsigned comment from Thundercat2 (talkcontribs)

Accent

In the original version of the anime, Valerie speaks with a Kansai accent. Does she also speak this way in the Japanese script of X and Y? - Chosen of Mana 15:02, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Dub actor

Wild speculation but I notice Valerie does sound a bit like Serena, perhaps Haven Paschall voices her --BigDocFan (talk) 11:21, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

From the credits of the episode where Ash wins the Fairy Badge, here is a list of credited voices. I figure we can collectively use process of elimination to help figure out the voice actress, assuming she was credited...We can probably immediately eliminate the male VAs

Unfortunately, we can only put in a voice actor for somebody if it has been confirmed. Playing by ear isn't reliable enough to be put on Bulbapedia. Currently, the only reliable method we have (that I know of) is through social media, asking voice actors directly about their roles. AGGRON989 23:15, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Good point. I hadn't considered that. But if somebody can definitely say it's not Kate Bristol, for instance, we wouldn't have to bother her, or if somebody does ask Ms. Bristol and she says she didn't do it, we can then cross her off the list. It still works as a checklist, if we want to use it, it's just that we don't put anything on the official page until we get a confirmation. You don't have to use the list if you don't want, it was just an idea since I happened to be watching the episode at the time.--J624 (talk) 01:45, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
