Team Aqua (Japanese: アクア団 Aqua Gang) is one of the villainous teams to be found in Hoenn. They intend to raise the level of the oceans by using the power of Kyogre. Team Aqua's leader is Archie and their rival organization is Team Magma. The uniform is a gray and white shirt, blue jeans with white circles, black gloves and a blue scarf with the Team Aqua's symbol on it, the grunts in the manga also wear a jacket.

In the game

Team Aqua appears in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, but they have the central history only in Sapphire. Their headquarters are in the Aqua Hideout.

The team is made up of three different ranks:

Grunts - The lowest ranking members.
Admins - High-level managers who oversee devious projects. There are only two on Team Aqua, Matt and Shelly.
Leader - In the case of Team Aqua, Archie.

Their Pokémon include Carvanha for Grunts, Sharpedo, Golbat, Mightyena, and Poochyena; in general, they use a mix of Flying-, Poison-, and Water-types.

In the anime

The Team Aqua history is introduced in Stairway to Devon where a member of the team infiltrated in Devon Corporation and stole two capsules of Creation Fluid, but his plans are stopped by Jessie and James who wanted to steal the same liquid that is really water. This same member in On a Wingull and a Prayer! takes a boat of Mr. Briney to escape from the police and goes to the ocean where a Team Aqua's submarine rescue him. They later appear in AG027 and AG083. Their final, and mst prominent appearance is AG097 and AG098, when they help cause the battle between Kyogre and Groudon.

Team Aqua's goal was to create more sea in the Hoenn region, and are the bitter enemies of Team Magma, because they wanted to expand the land area. To do this, they decided to capture Kyogre, a legendary water Pokémon that had been sleeping in the Cave of Origin. After the Team's plans were thwarted, Archie went insane and tried to destroy everything that had caused this. Team Aqua also had influence in the media. They could cover up their schemes while airing anti-Team Magma propaganda.

In the TCG

Team Aqua's Pokémon cards are found in the EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua set. Special ones include Archie (which allows a player to choose one Team Aqua's Pokémon from their deck), Team Aqua Conspirator, Team Magma Schemer, Team Aqua Hideout, Team Aqua Technical Machine 01, Team Aqua Belt, Team Aqua Ball, and Aqua Energy. These Pokémon can be found under their control:
