Mystery Zone
The Mystery Zone (Japanese: なぞのばしょ Mystery Place) is an area in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum that essentially serves as "filler space" between normally accessible outdoor and indoor areas. It exists all around Sinnoh, presumably to facilitate the precise entrance into the Underground, which has tunnels that travel where no routes and cities exist. There are no Pokémon in it; it is, for the most part, made up of trees, water, and darkness. 'Mystery Zone' is the area's real title, and as such 'Mystery Zone' briefly appears onscreen whenever the player enters one. The menu cannot open while in the area, but the registered key item can be used. The background music in the Mystery Zone is a slightly quieter version of the music on Routes 206, 207, 208, and 221. The Mystery Zone can be accessed without a GameShark/Action Replay by tweaking in correct places. Through use of Mystery Zones, seasonal effects in the game can be tricked into not loading: the northern regions with invisible snowfields, the southern regions with snowstorms, etc. Also, if one would enter the Mystery Zone and refresh by having the town map selected through registration, when the player would go back to the original area, the area will look completely shifted by the coding; only lines between each tile would be seen that would differentiate one tile from another. This can be fixed by refreshing.
