By creating your account you are now able to edit pages, join discussions, and expand the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Before you jump in, here are some ground rules:

  • Be nice to everyone. It's in the code of conduct.
  • Make good edits. Preview them before you save to make sure they're perfect the first time around.
  • Use wikicode and link templates when adding content to a page.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling, and read the manual of style.
  • You can't create a userpage until you've added to the encyclopedia. It's a privilege. See the userspace policy.
  • Use talk pages to resolve editing disputes. Don't "edit war," or constantly re-edit/undo the same thing on a page.
  • If you have a question about something, be proactive. Take a look at our FAQ. If you're still stuck, ask for help. The staff won't bite.
  • Sign all talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~). This will turn into your name and the time you wrote the comment.
  • For more handy links, see the welcome portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

Why?

Why did you do this edit? Isn't that piece of trivia true and perfectly valid? --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 16:04, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Lugia shares a type with two legendaries being Mewtwo and Rayquaza. Rayquaza shares a type with Giratina and Lugia. Am I missing something? Itan (talk) 16:10, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
Oh. Yeah. You're right. My bad. You could've said in your edit summary, though. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 16:40, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
I don't have a habit of adding summary yet as most of my edits were minor. I'm sure I will use it more from now on. Itan (talk) 17:06, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 17:40, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Moves that cost HP to use

Hey there, I saw you added Mind Blown and Steel Beam to that category.

I thought maybe we want to discuss this? IIRC, those two moves can fail/miss, and won't deduct HP then, so I'm not sure if that's reason enough not to include them. My feeling is that I think I'd understand that category to have moves that first deduct HP, then do whatever they do? I'm not sure - maybe you have an opinion.

Anyway, the HP page uses that category, so I guess moves should either be on both that page and in the category, or in neither. Nescientist (talk) 14:52, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Oh, right, I completely forgot to add them to HP page - I even saw this category there first. I'll add them shortly after we come to an agreement of some sort. So, about order of deduction - we have an honorable exception, which I honestly didn't know about until two minutes ago. Clangorous Soul raises stats first, only to cut HP straight after that. Curse, Substitute and Belly Drum cut HP first. About failing/missing - Mind Blown will still cut HP if missed, according to its article. It can fail due to Damp, but so can fail any status move due to Taunt (even phrasing of cancel is almost the same). I don't know much about Steel Beam, as I do not owb SwSh, but -I think- it can't fail, unless there's no opponent on the field (and so will Clangorous Soul, I'd assume) (there are fail conditions on every move tbh). There's more similarities to those moves (and it wouldn't be the same without CS), even while I agree they are a bit different. Instead of "You gain an effect at the cost of your HP" it's "You attack and get penalty equal to half of your HP". They don't belong to Recoil/Crash category, so I decided to put them here. Itan (talk) 20:30, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, I didn't realize Clangerous Soul also cuts HP second, so just forget about what I initially felt this category might potentially try to be..
It seems to be one of those categories that happen to encapsulate some effects in some (non-existential) way. For example, if all they have in common (their "definition") is they have something to do with loss of HP (but aren't recoil or crash damage moves), why isn't Pain Split in there, too? (It's as situational as Curse.)
And in that case, I guess, I'll gladly just trust your decision(s), and be fine with whatever (as long as it's reasonable and consistent). Nescientist (talk) 22:16, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
I'd say Pain Split doesn't belong in this category just because losing HP isn't the cost of attack, it's a direct effect. Any other move has a reason for a penalty - being significant stat buff, or powerfull attack or, you know, Substitute, while Pain Split doesn't really fit in. Not a side effect. Great Marsh

Hi, in response to your question about the Great Marsh, the NPC was from BDSP (sorry I should have specified). He is located on the far left side of the middle area I believe. I saw in the trivia that it had been corrected in Platinum and I assumed this was maintained for the remakes since I tested it myself. I managed to catch Carnivine throwing only mud for several turns and then burning through several Safari Balls. I don't imagine this would have happened throwing only bait. I know this doesn't completely prove anything but I felt like the info was safe enough to pass off until a data miner could confirm. EV Love (talk) 21:09, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
