Roller Skates
The Roller Skates (Japanese: ローラースケート Roller Skates) are a key item in Pokémon X and Y that allow the player to move around faster than they would by running, but slower than they would on a bicycle, by navigating with the Nintendo 3DS's circle pad.
In the games
The Roller Skates are obtained from a Roller Skater outside the Santalune Gym after the player has defeated her in a battle. Unlike walking, running, and riding a bicycle, the Roller Skates requires the use of the Control Pad; pressing the directional buttons will cause the player to switch to the Running Shoes.
When going through tall grass, the player is reduced to walking speed and the PokéRadar may not be used.

Tricks
The player can perform certain tricks while using the Roller Skates. Each trick must first be learned from an NPC before it can be used. The tricks are purely aesthetic and have no gameplay effect.
The player can learn five Roller Skate tricks:
- Backflip — Taught by a Roller Skater on North Boulevard, outside Hotel Richissime, below a tree.
- With adequate speed the player will perform a back-flip when jumping over a ledge.
- Parallel Swizzle — Taught by a Roller Skater inside an office building on the western end of South Boulevard.
- Performs a majestic turn in the opposite direction.
- Running Start — Taught by a Roller Skater at the monument in Vert Plaza.
- Grants a faster start when the player begins skating.
- 360 — Taught by a Roller Skater inside Café Rouleu on Estival Avenue.
- Performs a spin when the circle pad is rotated while moving.
- Cosmic Flip — Can only be learned if the player already knows all other tricks. Taught by Twirling Whirlwind in the Lost Hotel.
- With adequate speed the player will perform a special flip when heading towards a ledge, quickly changing to the opposite direction, then right back to jump over it.
