Appendix:Pokémon GO Player's Guide/Eggs
Whenever you visit a PokéStop in Pokémon GO, there's a random chance that one of the things you'll receive will be a Pokémon Egg! While catching is the obvious way to get Pokémon in Pokémon GO, hatching these Eggs can be a great way to find new Pokémon too!
What will hatch
When you get an Egg, you can't really tell anything about it except the distance it will take to hatch. Different Pokémon take different amounts of time to hatch, with rarer Pokémon often taking longer to hatch, so this distance can give you a rough idea of what kind of Pokémon might be in your Egg, but until it hatches you can't be sure. To add another wrinkle, there is also a chance that a Pokémon will hatch from an Egg with a longer hatch time than its minimum (such as a Pidgey hatching from a 10 km Egg).
Here is a list of the Pokémon available from Eggs:

From November 4, 2016 onward, Pidgey and Rattata no longer hatch from eggs, and Eevee only hatches from 5km eggs instead of 10km eggs.
Hatching an Egg
You can carry up to nine Eggs at a time, but just having an Egg and walking around with it won't make it hatch. You need to put it in an incubator first.
To put an Egg in an incubator, check your Pokémon list and click on the "Eggs" tab on the upper part of the screen. Select the Egg you want to start incubating, and then select an available incubator.
You will always have an orange incubator you can use to hatch Eggs. This incubator is part of your inventory from the start of the game and has unlimited uses, but you can also buy blue incubators for 150 PokéCoins that are limited to three uses so that you can hatch more than one Egg at a time. A blue incubator may also be received as a reward when you reach certain Trainer levels.
Pokémon GO uses your GPS to keep track of both the distance you travel and how fast you're moving. If you're moving too fast—such as if you're driving in your car—GO will not count your travel towards hatching any Eggs you have in incubators, so you can't just hatch your Eggs on the way to and from work easily. Anecdotes suggest that around 15-20 km/h is the upper speed you're "allowed".
Something else to keep in mind is that GO will only keep track of how much you've walked while the app is open.
Rewards
For hatching a Pokémon, you'll also get:
- 200/500/1,000 XP depending on distance walked
- +500 XP if it's a new species
- Some Stardust
- Some Candy for that Pokémon
The amount of Stardust and Candy you get for hatching a Pokémon is more than you get if you catch the same species.
