A Psyduck is seen running through a patch of grass as a group of three shadowy figures are chasing it. Pikachu and Phanpy are training in the background as May gathers a pail of water. Ash is looking through his backpack just as the frightened Psyduck flies over of the group and falls on top of their campfire. Psyduck then begins running frantically around and leaps into the nearby stream to cool itself down. The three fighting Pokémon; Machop, Machoke, and Machamp appear from the above cliff as Psyduck begins swimming hastily away from its pursuers. Psyduck is cornered into the wall by the three towering Pokémon as Machoke reaches down and grabs Psyduck by the neck. Phanpy attempts to help the distressed Psyduck but is easily swatted by the Machop. Phanpy then responds back with a Rollout and easily defeats Machop. Machamp then tries to hit Phanpy but is blocked by its Rollout attack. Phanpy then knocks Machamp onto the ground as their friend, Machoke, steps up to try to defeat Phanpy. All three hurl towards Phanpy as Pikachu interrupts by electrifying all three of the Pokémon with a powerful Thunderbolt and sending them running off into the distance. Ash has successfully rescued Psyduck and freed it from its captors.

Psyduck and Phanpy start playing by a nearby stream as Brock offers the Psyduck some Pokémon food. Psyduck quickly starts devouring the food as May queries the Pokédex data. Machop, Machoke, and Machamp are then seen kneeling in apology to their master for not successfully capturing Psyduck, an obviously wealthy young lady sitting in a carriage and pulled by a Rapidash. They then continue off again to attempt to capture Psyduck for their young master.

Ash and group are walking down a path as Phanpy, Pikachu, and Psyduck begin playing, wrestling in the grass. Off in the distance in a treetop, Jessie, James, and TRMeowth ([[{{{2}}} (move)|{{{2}}}]]) are spying on the gang again from their hideout. They then plan to steal Psyduck for their boss, Giovanni, and a vision begins as Meowth envisions Psyduck attending to Giovanni's needs. If they successfully capture the Psyduck for their boss then they will be up for a big promotion.

James and Jessie are then seen in the distance trying to attract Ash and the gang to their "well" thought out scam to capture Psyduck. Jessie is holding a sled as she suggests to them to slide down the hill beside them. James goes first sliding at a fast speed down the hill as they seem to be convinced to take a ride down the hill. James then returns to the top of the hill with Jessie as she then activates giant pillars which appear to be a part of a Pinball game with different point values on each one. Ash, May, Brock, and Max are all directed towards a huge net as Meowth appears from the ground and captures both Psyduck and Phanpy. Jessie and James start their speech and set the scene as they then reveal their "true" identities.

Team Rocket jet off into the sky in their balloon but just as it seems that they are going to get away, Machop, Machoke, and Machamp come running from the distance and grab onto their balloon just before it can ascend into the sky. Ash and everyone race towards the fleeing hot air balloon. Machamp and Machoke successfully ground Team Rocket as they both call upon Seviper and Cacnea. Ash, May, Max, and Brock arrive at the scene as Machop begins to rescue Psyduck and Phanpy from the balloon. Machoke and Machamp dash toward the team and send them flying into their balloon just as the engine sparks and explodes sending Team Rocket blasting off into the sky.

The mysterious young lady which is master of the three fighting Pokémon arrives in her carriage in front of Ash and everyone. She then exits from her vehicle and shouts happily at successfully finding her Psyduck. She then explains to them that the Psyduck is her Pokémon and she has been looking for it. They successfully arrive at her mansion as Psyduck seems to be a little dirty from all the chasing and battling. Three maids rush away with Psyduck to rid it of its filth as everyone is seated to an exquisite banquet. Psyduck seems to be depressed as Ash recalls seeing Psyduck happy when it was eating the Pokémon food earlier and playing with Pikachu and Phanpy.

Ash and May are training outside with Phanpy and Squirtle as Psyduck watches the two Pokémon battle it out and seems to want to participate. Phanpy's Rollout is successful as it blocks Squirtle's Water Gun and heads toward it for an attack but just before contact Psyduck appears and jumps on top of Phanpy and directs its force toward Ash knocking him into the nearby pond. Psyduck appears to be happy now as it starts splashing water with Ash and he splashes back. Squirtle then squirts a stream of water toward Ash as Pikachu jumps into the water to join the fun.

Psyduck's master notices its happiness and how it is enjoying itself. A dark plume of smoke and dust infiltrates the area as Jessie and James appear once again to attempt to capture Psyduck. Ash then releases Grovyle which performs Leaf Blade on the wire grasping Psyduck which sends it flying through the air. Psyduck's master rushes towards it to save it from the fall. Grovyle sends a barrage of bullet seeds towards Team Rocket rifling through their balloon which quickly deflates and crashes into the ground. Jessie and James appear once more as Phanpy goes into another Rollout and knocks Seviper backwards. Cacnea starts to head toward Psyduck as Max suggests that Psyduck should battle. Cacnea sends a strong sandstorm towards Psyduck as Max tells her to direct Psyduck an attack. Psyduck sends a devastating Mega Punch towards Cacnea which sends it flying through the air but Seviper then appears as Max suggests Psyduck use Fury Swipes. The attack makes contact with Seviper as Meowth then heads towards Psyduck to engage in battle. Psyduck and Meowth are trading hits as Psyduck sends a rushing stream of water towards Meowth knocking it back towards Jessie and James. Seviper sends a fury of Iron Tails toward Psyduck as it retaliates with Confusion and sends them flying towards their balloon. Pikachu then sends an electrifying Thunderbolt into the team and sends them blasting off into the sky.

Psyduck appears to be happy again as it wants to participate in Pokémon battles and strengthen itself. Psyduck and its master then wish them a safe journey as they head off into the distance towards their next destination.

Trivia

  • The English dub title is derived from the idiom "sitting duck."
  • Emily's Psyduck not liking a life of luxury is similar to the situation of Madame Muchmoney's Snubbull.
